Arlington options late lottery applicants

Thoughts on getting into Key through late applicant lottery for kid with sibling preference? (Kindergarten seat, non-Spanish)

I’m guessing on-time non-siblings would still be higher on the waitlist than late siblings?

Does anyone ever get in through the late lottery?

So you have one kid at key and want the other one to go? If yes, you don't need to really go through the lottery process. I know I was signed my kid up for the lottery but I never really understood the point. I was able to register my kinder kid before I even got the lottery results back. You are guaranteed a spot.

I didn't realize there was a late lottery, but I would just call the school and let them know. It shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for replying! Not sure I would get any responses here. Yes have a kid at Key currently. Did you talk to the registrar/principal/someone else at Key who helped you with registration?

We're at ATS and put in for the lottery for DC2 - just checked the sibling preference box and added DC1's name.

I just called the front office. They will be able to direct you. if there is a late lottery I would enter that, but I wouldn't worry at all about getting a spot just call and let them know the deal

OP: I know, but what if someone misses the lottery? I see there’s a “late lottery” that opens on May 16, but does anyone really get through that? It puts you at the bottom of the first lottery’s waitlist. Does sibling preference matter in such a case?

So did you forget to enter the lottery for your younger child? Honestly, you probably won't get in through the late lottery unless you are entering the native Spanish one. You will get preference in the later lottery but you won't jump the waitlist from the original lottery. Since shrinking the Ks to 4 classes from 6, the waitlist for immersion doesn't move like it used to. The office staff actually has no control over the lottery and waitlists right now.

If you don’t mind me asking, was this for entry into the most recent school year (21-22)? Based on numbers I read, this school year is the first year they cut the number of K seats available, as a PP alluded to. Curious if this was still your experience even with the seat reduction.

I work at a different option school. Our registrar and admin have nothing to do with the lottery. They can't even see who got spots until tomorrow when they are released to parents and schools.
