Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I should also note that I got pregnant again only a few months after DC2 was born. Is it safe to try or should I just schedule a C/S? Both kids were delivered via C/S after several hours of pushing and no progress. I have a clotting problem history so Its been suggested I only see a doctor (no midwives, etc). |

Honestly, I think it will be hard to find an OB who supports a VBA2C; not sure if Tchabo is attending these anymore or not. Further, I think that 18 months is the recommended minimum between births -- was #2 less than 9 mos. old when you conceived?
If you're anywhere near Northern Virginia, the NoVA chapter of ICAN is a wealth of up-to-date information: http://www.icanofnova.org/ You might also seek out a few midwives (hospital- and/or home-based) for a consult on your medical history. They'll be able to tell you whether your clotting problem would risk you out of their care. Good luck to you as you find the right path for this pregnancy. |

Thanks. That's what I thought.
It's a year between c/s. DC2 was conceived around then. DC3 was obviously not planned. |
| I've read on here that Tchabo isn't doing VBA2Cs any more bc VHC doesn't allow them anymore. Was Tchabo your doctor for your attempted VBAC? |

Just got this on a listserv... looks like Maryland General Midwives will attend VBAMC under certain circumstances.
----- I wanted to pass this along for those that do not know about MD General Midwives. They attended our ICAN meeting yesterday for a Q&A and it was amazing to hear what they do. VBAC information -they do VBAC's -VBA2C's well it is a case by case but they are working on changing that policy to that they do more ( but if someone where to walk in there in active labor they will try a vaginal delivery) -they do late transfers -do like continuous monitoring but willing to work with you General -intermitted monitoring with a Doppler ( they do not have telemetry) -midwife continuous care. MW see all the patients and care for everyone. Once in a while they do have a family practice doctor shadowing them -would prefer a med lock but willing to work with you -will let you eat and drink clear liquids during labor but willing to let you do else wise too -can deliver in any position (open to a birth stool if you bring one in, they do not own one yet) Breech -will do footling breech -if a mom came in active labor with a frank breech they would attempt as long as everyone is okay Water -they have 3 tubs ( you are almost guaranteed a tub) -you can get in with ruptured membranes -for mecunium you labor in the tube but delivery they prefer you get out -Doppler monitoring they are going to send me the protocols for water births will get that out to you Overall they are very supportive. They don't like direct pushing they believe in letting you push when you feel and how you feel. They are all about getting everyone involved. Home birth transfers they accept and work with the midwife. Types of inductions that they do -Foley bulb -before hand telling you about evening primrose oil and other ideas too -cervadil -cytotec -pitiocin they will let you go past 40 weeks even 42 weeks as long as the testing (meaning BP and NST's are good). There is no time restriction on how long you can labor as long as everyone is okay. If you don't need to be there or are too early they don't want you there and will send you home. Basically a lot of the things that they prefer, they will work with you on them. Here is their contact information Women's Health Care Associates 821 North Eutaw St Baltimore MD 21201 410 225 8991 |
