Global Entry interview — what to expect?

Anonymous
I applied for Global Entry all the way back in August and I finally have my interview tomorrow at BWI. Can anyone who has done it before tell me what to expect?

Also, it says it’s at “International E Pier — Arrivals Room E1709.” I’ve been to BWI plenty of times, but where exactly is that? Do I need to be going to the arrivals area in Concourse E?

I’m hoping to also finish my Clear enrollment while I’m there.

Thanks!

The video was a solid response! The Global Entry "interview" is really just a document confirmation, along with taking a picture and collecting fingerprints. Around 5 minutes, max 10. They may ask some confirmation questions like which countries you have traveled to, but really they will just check your docs (bring passport, drivers license and the conditional approval letter), take the picture for the GE card (which will arrive in about 10 days, needs to be confirmed on the website, but then is only needed for land entry, so you likely won't ever actually need it if you go outside the US via air), and do fingerprints to confirm the background check. You will likely have an email within an hour of leaving saying your status has changed, and then you can login to the Trusted Traveler site to see your full approval. With that, you can use the Pass ID/KTN and put it in your flight reservations to get precheck.

Clear is very similar, actually, just fully automated. Tell the Clear employee you are finishing enrollment and need to register your biometrics. Confirm your identity on the machine, then scan your drivers license, then picture, retina scan, and fingerprints. 5 minutes total.

And yes, I am sure you go to Concourse E, arrivals level and find the CBP desk/office, they will tell you where to go.

The GE card is actually valid as Real ID so if they ever implement that and like me you haven’t wanted to deal with upgrading your DL that’s another possible use (but yes, GE is mostly just a number you use).

OP here. Terrific! I haven’t upgraded my DL yet, so that’s very convenient.

So, I'll chime in here. I'm an upstanding citizen and got the GE when I was in my late 30s. Unfortunately, I got arrested in college for something dumb (took some alcohol from a bar) but I entered one of those pretrial diversion programs and my record was expunged. Never have I had to talk about that incident until my GE interview. It shocked me. So, if you have some unsavory parts to your background, despite it being 20-30-40 years ago, get ready for those questions. lol

Go to E and follow the signs for the Global Entry office... they're everywhere.

Your record was expunged, but DHS still knew about the incident? That’s creepy. Did they end up approving you for GE anyway?

I had mine this morning at 9am. It literally took 3 minutes. They told me I would hear back within 2 weeks of whether I was approved. I got the approval today at 2pm.

The officer looked at my passport and license, and took my picture. That was it.

Im interested in this as well. Similar incident. Sealed and dismissed and has never come up on any employer background checks. How did you answer? And did you get approved????

Qp here - yep, no issues.

QP here - nope. Thought it would be a quick rubber stamp. Besides, it never came up in every background check/interview I had participated in until then.
