How does Bethesda cancel weekend games on a Friday afternoon? People lose money on hotels at that point. We all know about the ref shortage but ECNL pays better than every other league. There is no way I'm accepting that excuse.

So what did you do about it? Reach out to the club? Are you a bethesda parent or a Delco/Penn Fusion parent? Apparently the club was told of no refs Friday morning. Are you aware of how assigning of referees works? |
My other kid is a ref so I am aware of how they do it in PA. Assignor releases the schedule on Monday, you can pick the games you want, then they are approved- teams would know by Wed or Thurs. ECNL are the most sought after games, aside from college, because they pay more, the parents know the game more (less stupid yelling) than the town teams, parents are usually sitting far away due to field>HS track>stands.
Not buying this one. |
They didn't have enough referees and state cup takes president. Also, some state cup games were rescheduled for another weekend. |
Riiiiight. So the club just forgot or something. Cmon. Ridiculous. Lack of refs overall and State Cup were the main factors. Ecnl is also club vs club as well so it’s either all or nothing. |
Pipeline played its girls’ Team ECNL home games and that is one of Bethesda’s in state rivals. Nothing else even needs to be mentioned after that. Somebody screwed up and they are being covered for. This was the nail in the coffin for at least four families I know of spread across different age groups. They said they feel like Bethesda is treating families like they are stupid, outright lying to them. They said they have never seen this many families upset. Some families even came back early from Spring Break for these games that were canceled, not to mention all of the families from other clubs that also had their plans screwed up.
Congrats Bethesda. One screw up without any accountability is going to likely hurt the Club for at least a couple years. |
mass exodus occuring regardless.
there is no trust anymore. bethesda has lost that with too many families and its one person causing it the boys side seems fine. |
The canceling of games is why people are leaving? Really? I'll believe it when i see it. |
It's not the canceling of games. The blatant lying by those in charge combined with a now corrupt board which is a whole other story completely; a new coach that came in and didn't even complete the season before being removed from one of his teams. Families were willing to look past that but again, after those "in charge" decided to blame the Maryland Ref Assoc., it was quickly found the games that were canceled only because of negligence on behalf of Bethesda, and nobody else. Another thing that has not been mentioned is the 10s, 09s, and 08s have not played a game since Jefferson Cup, the weekend of March 20th. After these games were canceled, they will have there first games in South Carolina at an ECNL showcase. Pretty much 6 weeks between games in the middle of the Spring season. So yeah, some families are still on the edge while others have already checked out. When you know the above, it's easy to see why. Imagine having four different coaches over a 4 year time period??? The 07s know all too much about that. |
just another reason to add to the list |
the no games for the younger non high school age group 1, is not the clubs fault (thats the ECNL schedule, due to tournaments and ECNL national showcases), and 2, is pretty much the norm for march and april for that age group. the parents that are mad that the 07 coach was removed in mid season can blame the other half of the parents on the team- they caused it. the 06RLs have also been given the run around for the last few years. Thats a total mess from what I hear. |
My 2010 girl is coming to the area this summer to begin her first (u-13) ECNL season. Bethesda is one of the final two clubs we're considering and has a lot to do with their infrastructure and monopoly to players in the DMV who want to play in MD. What am I getting wrong? Are issues like these systematic or a one time error? How much does it impact girls on the top teams at a club like Bethesda or Union? Thanks in advance! |
has she practiced with the current u13 team? you are hoping she will make one of these teams? I would highly suggest finding the teams current schedule and attending one of their games. They dont really have a "monopoly" to players who want to play in the DMV- if you are referring to ECNL specifically, even that they dont have- MD united and Pipeline are ECNL MD options. |
The 2008 ECNL 1 team isn't going to South Carolina like the 2009/2010 teams. Didn't go to the earlier ECNL events. |
Didn't MD United girls lose like 13-0 to Bethesda 2010's in the Pre-ECNL league this fall? Older age levels look like Bethesda is better over all age groups combined. NJ teams def seem to be the strength of the North Atlantic though. Pipeline looks competitive but they are in Baltimore, so monopoly on DMV for MD seems pretty accurate to me, what do I know? Seriously, please let me know what I'm missing here. |
