My child is going to fail her SOLs

Based on test scores so far and grades and my child's hatred of computer-based tests, this is going to happen, for sure. Will the school even care? Will they do anything about it? Or will be like everything else "Oh your kid scored in the 20th percentile, that's okay, carry on."?

(OP here, my child has no learning disabilities and has a tutor come for various subjects two days a week, don't call me a bad parent)

What grade? ES it doesn't matter. HS does have some classes that you have to pass the SOL.

If your kid is in ES, I would look at practice questions and help her get comfortable with the format. She has to pass some eventually, use this as practice for taking this type of test.

I mean, who cares? It's just the SOL. Says more about the school than your child.

Mom to mom-

Do NOT let them talk you into having her retake them. A child that has failed the SOLs is entitled to services the next school year. Don’t let them whitewash where she needs help.

Nope. This should be happening at school. Not at home. Signed FCPS teacher

They are not entitled to services if they fail. (ES Teacher)

OP - it's ES. They have been practicing in school and sent a link to the practice test which we've worked on with her a few times.

I am not a big fan of letting my child fail when I can help them pass. I would rather take the time to teach my child test taking skills so that they learn how to take a test properly because at some point in time, they need to be able to pass standardized tests on a computer. Allowing my kid to develop test anxiety is not acceptable.

You can fill out a form to not take the SOL if you don't want her to take it. She will need to eventually take and pass a SOL but that is not until HS. The exception in ES is for kids in Advanced Math, you have to Pass Advanced the 7th grade math SOL, taken in 6th, in order to take Algebra in 7th grade.

If your not familiar with the format, you may be teaching them incorrect strategies.

Don’t let the school retest if your child is in ES.

You can opt out of SOLs and it wont hurt your childs progress at all. Did it for both of my kids.

OP here - as I said, we have been practicing at home.
