Summer school- health and tech

Is registration open for these classes yet? Looking to get tech out of the way for my rising freshman.

Yes. Registration for Central Summer school is open on ParentVue. You can only complete Health A this summer.

You used to be able to sign up from the MCPS website but it says that the 2022 dates aren’t open? And I could only find health, not tech…

Registration is through your Synergy account, not the MCPS website. You can see the list of classes there, but you have to log into Synergy to actually register.

Was anyone able to register for health during second session? It says it’s offered but it had no way to register.

We registered. Also, check your local high school. Ours is offering Health.

Last summer I feel like we found out a day or two before. Communication was so bad.

I think the registration confirmation in Synergy says something about it this time.

Last spring, we were told that rising freshmen were not eligible to take credit-bearing classes during the summer.

Maybe things have changed or that is a decision made on the school level? My current freshman is at RHS.

You could take tech as a rising 9th last summer, but could not take Health. This year, they also allow Health because of the addition of a second semester requirement by the state.

Is there still a summer health option where you just meet with the teacher the first day and the last day and everything else is on your own? It seemed to me the online option is now requiring you to be in online sessions every day — is that correct?

Yes. Its only session every other day. You can meet with the teacher(or a teacher) in person on the alternating days if needed or wanted.

All the central summer school classes this year require live online sessions (about 1 1/2 hours long, I think) on MWF, with the rest of the work done on your own. Optional online office hours and in-person help sessions.
