permitting patio

| had an interesting conversation over the weekend. lets have DCUM decide who is right. Deck expansion and patio done without permit from fairfax county. one person says the county will force you to remove everything no matter what and the other person says as long as the structure has gone up and the work is completed, county cant force you to remove it. Who is right? Thank you. |

Patio is ok without a permit. Unless the deck is at grade, it needs a permit.
Some of the towns have their own permiting on top of the County requirements so check that out if you live in the Town of Herndon or Vienna. Falls Chuch city and Fairfax City have their processes. I have seen a neighbor have to remove a screened in porch. It started as a deck and then it was converted to a screened in porch by the new owners. It all had to be taken down and they ended up with a smaller screened in porch. This was in the town of Vienna, but the County forced the issue. |
