Do we just have to live with the dangerous street racing on busy roads?

I live in NoVa and the street racing is out of control. I’ve been here since 2016 and noticed it then but it’s gotten significantly worse as of late. On Fairfax County Parkway I saw 2 cars doing probably 100mph this evening. There was a bad wreck at one of the intersections on this road the other week and I’m sure a lot of these collisions are caused by idiot street racers. Starting to fear for my safety on the roads.

+1, it’s really bad in Rt 1 Corridor in College Park/Hyattsville/Adelphi area. They race nonstop on Adelphi Rd, Rt 1, and East West highway. And when they’re not racing, they just drive around making a ton of noise. I think a lot of the muffler modification shops are in the industrial Hyattsville area, maybe in NoVa those shops are over by you as well?

Well, the argument when they removed police from schools in MCPS was that the arrests were disproportionately MOC. No comment of course on the conviction rates -- if these were "bad" arrests, the charges would have been dropped.

It is culturally insensitive to disparage their lives experience as mad max bikers. You center your privilege by not recognizing the intersectional contributions of their stunts and near collisions with the greater community.

We should dig up all the concrete roads so as not to be such an “attractive nuisance” to bikers who just have nothing else to do and by no fault of their own engage in this behaviors. it’s society’s fault.

This. It's the best deterrent. The problem is that many of you who hate the street racing ALSO want to be able to go 10-15 over the speed limit during your commute or going the grocery store, so you like having these suburban "stroads" that facilitate speeding and dangerous driving. But if you build infrastructure that makes speeding harder, if not impossible, you could fix it.

I am talking about my neighborhood in MoCo. All the guys doing this, at least local to me on the east side of MoCo are white, I've seen them. I'm sure they meet with their black and hispanic loud noise friends elsewhere, but I haven't personally seen it yet.

What about a quota of white women being charged with reckless driving in their white Range Rover or Audi Q7 at 15 over the limit?

Just because you’re not racing anyone else doesn’t mean you’re not driving recklessly.
