My doctor just prescribed zofran for my nausea. I've checked past posts and generally people had high praise for it. Does anyone have any experience with any side effects? My concern is that anxiety and trouble thinking/concentrating are listed as side effects. An ER doctor once put me on reglan for a migraine and I went bonkers on it- felt like I was crawling out of my skin I was so anxious.
Has anyone had those side effects (or not as the case may be)? Were they bad, or were any of the potential side effects enough to make you want to stop the medicine. Did it really just help with the nausea? Thank you for your help! |
No side effects at all for me. The only thing I would caution in case you have nausea as bad as I did, is that it's not going to make you feel just amazing but will be a 100% improvement and you will be able to go to work or do activities and eat but I wouldn't plan on thinking that you are going to feel ready for a marathon. I hope you feel better! |
I was on Zofran for just a weekend (around week 15 / 16) and it didn't improve my nausea at all. In fact, I felt like I was throwing up with more vehemence than usual (and it was already really bad to begin with, I averaged between 2 - 5 times / day). The side effects I noticed included extreme sleepiness and - don't laugh - increased sex drive. God knows that that was about! Hang in there, M/S is brutal, but you'll feel better with time. |
I agree with the 2nd poster. It definitley helped me keep my food down, but I still felt yucky a lot of the time. Just a lot less yucky than before I took it. Didn't have any side effects, that I knew of! |
For me, it depended how hydrated (or rather dehydrated) I was when I was taking the Zofran. If I was dehydrated, I got slightly lightheaded and took a quick nap (it is nothing when you compare this drug to phenergan). If I am hydrated, I am fun and continue on with my daily routine.
Some people note slowing of the GI track leading to constipation (but this is normal with pregnancy) so it is tough to say what may be caused from the drug and what is natural from your own body/hormones. If you are having difficulties hold food and liquids down - do not hesitate to take it. Although, it may help with the vomiting some people say it will not help with the nauseous feeling. For me, the vomiting comes and goes but a LOT less (no more than twice a week) and the nausea is waay diminished. |
OP here- thank you for your replies. I started it and fear it is giving me headaches. It's helped with the vomiting but not the nuasea as some have said. It's also caused constitpation. The one thing I didn't have so far. Doctor gave me some lollipops called "B-natal" to take with the zofran and to report back. If it doesn't help it's a trip to the ER to get hydrated. Has anyone experienced headaches with zofran?
How well does phenergan work on nuasea? For me that's the worse. It's just this constant feeling of having to throw up and it never goes away. Yesterday was so bad I had to stay home from work because I couldn't make it down the steps. If there's something that will work on the nausea, it would be a godsend. |
Phenegram did not work for me at all. And it made me exhausted. I also had some constipation with Zophran, which meant that i had to up my liquid intake, including a lovely prune and apple juice cocktail. That and fiber-one products worked like a charm. Good luck! |
