do you do sport in summertime?

My kid is doing soccer class on weekend, and it ends at mid May. His summer camp starts from mid-June to late August, and it is the first time he does outdoor summer camps.

He is interested in basketball, and I wonder when should I start basketball weekend class at spring/summer (May to July for 1 session) or in the fall (Sept to Oct for 1 session)? I am concerned if he might be exhausted from all M-F summer camps and activity level, and he may just want to stay home on weekends during summertime. And another concern is he will start soccer again in the fall on weekend, so doing both soccer and basketball seem too much at the same time in the fall. My child is 6.

The basketball class is indoor, and there is no weekly practice for his age group. It only happens on weekend for an hour each session.

My kids are exhausted after camp so we don’t do too many other sports, besides swimming during the summer. Every kid is different though. Some just go nonstop. As for the fall, I don’t think a one hour basketball class once a week adds too much more to the schedule if he’s really interested in it.

Summer is prime time for one son (club lacrosse) - June through July is our hectic season.

For other son, we rotate weekday sports-type summer camp with pool time but no regularly scheduled sports like soccer.

If you want your kid to play a higher level one day, give them a break sometime during the year of at least a few months. Their bodies cannot take 12 months of training.

No.

We’re just trying to survive the heat and bugs.

It is swim time. We take a break.

How high energy is your kid? One of my children would come home from camp exhausted. He really needed down time. He couldn’t handle anything else. The other was fine with nightly activities and constantly asked for more. It comes down to how much do YOU want to be out driving places in the summer or during any season?

We don't do sports in the summer - the kids are exhausted at the end of the day and we go to the pool 2-3 nights a week. A lot of people do swim team, but the hours only really work for people with a stay at home parent or nanny.

Nope … we all (parents and kids) need a break. I also like the freedom of free weekends.

My DD is a club swimmer so she swims year round, but the summer is her time to have fun at summer swim with her friends. She stays in good shape, gets to swim at meets every week (which is her favorite thing), and also gets to enjoy the swimmer swim team atmosphere.

We don’t. She’ll have a camp but that’s one week. Most of the time is spent on vacation and in our pool. Summer is for relaxing and fun. We do continue music lessons cause her teacher doesn’t believe in the summer is for relaxing philosophy. Booo!

My 18 and 17 years old will be spending their time at the Equinox gym in Tyson Corner from 8am until 5pm everyday working out with a healthy diet for 10 weeks. It is a very expensive membership so they have to make it worth it.
