| Yes, in some situations you can but its a really bad idea. Best to remove tile. |

| Our house has this done and it seemed fine but the tile was larger, might be hard with smaller tile. We removed it all and under the tile found the original 1920s tile and under that, about 5 inches of gravel - a pain to demo and dispose of. |
OP: I do too but it's cracked and not in great shape. Would replace it with similar tiles. |
