Kitchen Gadget "Lending Library"

Anonymous
Does anyone know if there's a local organization or group that lends out kitchen gadgets? (I know that the Arlington County Library system has "maker" tools you can borrow, eg saws, sewing machines, etc. but nothing for the kitchen that I can see)

Thanks!

Our Food Pantry is talking about starting up one. I love the idea -- I only bake occasionally, so I've never bought a big mixer with a dough hook and whisk. It would be great if I could borrow one.

Good luck! Hope your Food Pantry decides to do that!

My sisters and cousins and I all live in the same neighborhood. There are nine of us families - we have three kitchen aid mixers and each of the three owners has a different attachment (pasta, etc.). Two houses have knife sharpening. We just trade things like this back and forth.

Good idea! I don't have family in the area (but perhaps I'll check in with my Bookclub pals!)

Yeah, any group of families that has similar levels of cleanliness and gentleness with objects will work well. We also all love each other so if something breaks on our watch we replace it. There's no "it was on its last legs/you gave it to me broken/etc" fighting going on.

Somehow, I have reached 60+ years of life and have never owned a Kitchen Aid mixer. I cook a lot too.

Definitely not a need. Just a want for some.

I think our buy nothing group has one.

Howard County’s Elkridge DIY center has baking and cake decorating supplies, but not pasta makers or KA mixers.

I do my pizza dough. I use the Smitten Kitchen recipe that you mix the day before. No kneading.

OK - OP here. Found one! (My friend's mom has one... so I can make some pizzelle, then send the gadget back when I'm done - yay! : )

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

Good news. I found good results with asking on Facebook once when I needed multiple waffle makers for my kid’s school project.
