Why do schools offer so many useless degrees?

Anonymous
Off the top of my head, I can think of multiple schools that offer 4+1 MBA programs (right after undergrad!!). Then, there’s stand-alone majors offered at many schools like criminology, cybersecurity, criminal justice, entrepreneurship, pharmacology, and insurance.

Go back to the basics, people.

Do you know what a pharmacology degree is? Sounds like you’re the one who needs an education.

There is no such thing as a “useless degree”. College is for education and not trade school.

I think you're in the extreme minority on this -- many of those you named are extremely valuable to have, both in terms of income and importance to the country.

Jeez. Exactly. Can you imagine pharmacists not having degrees in pharmacology? OMG. The OP is clueless.

Schools offer classes in what students want. You'll notice how few offer Western Civ., Latin, Greek - dead white male stuff anymore.

It allows average to below average students to have the imprimatur of a college education.

Also, money.

Yes. Undergrad in chem or bio followed by a PharmD used to be common.

OP here. I consider liberal arts degrees in subjects like history, English, psychology, mathematics , biology etc to be useful.

So you don't think getting training in how to parry hackers, or how to conduct secure servers is important?

This. Education is for lifelong learning and learning is never useless.

Then you should pursue the degree you want, and let others pursue the ones they want. The world doesn't cater to only your preferences and whims.

Oh come on. Most people on here would never let their kids major in these.

Yeah, fine -- but you said those others you named are "useless." I consider that pretty ill-informed.
