I assumed it had to thaw. Just for less time? How do I know when it is finished? 1 hour rather than 90 mins?

In the fridge? Slice and put between pieces of paper towel.

Ah. You had the frozen uncooked kind. That is a different beast. I would refreeze overnight and cook.
