| We are headed to Dublin next month. My five-year-old has just begun Irish step dancing and is eager to see the real thing when we are there. I know that there are some pubs that have Irish dance music with small dance demonstrations, but I’m wondering if there are more child appropriate venues we can book into? She is too young to sit through a two hour river dance style show so I’m just curious if anybody has found something more in between? |
| Not quite the answer you're looking for, but I was in Dublin in Feb 2020, and we found it really hard to find traditional music even in pubs. We finally found one, but it was hard and we asked a lot of people. I think a lot of that is more common here than over there. That said, I bet it is more common outside of the city. |
| Too bad you aren't there now since Worlds is going on (in Belfast). Sunday night is traditional music night at pubs and you may find a dancer or two in there. More likely closer to Galway or in the Gaeltacht. We are there regularly for dancing and I haven't seen anything in Dublin. You can look for a local feis but those are similar to what you would see here. |

Fun story: when I lived in Galway I took my mom to a step dancing show when she came to visit me. There was a point where one of the girls tripped the girl next to her on accident and everyone had to stop and reset.
The clackety-clack never stopped while no one was dancing. They were playing a backing track and I could not hold it together. I still sometimes make the clackety noise at my mom and we both crack up. |

Dublin is the wrong place for that!
20+ year Irish dancer here and I've been to Ireland 10+ times. Dublin is basically NYC or Chicago with an accent. Go to Galway, Cork City, or Kilkenny and you'll definitely find local dance shows |
| Thank you from the OP. I will keep an eye out but continue to lower expectations, lol. Thanks for taking the time to reply! |
| Galway has tons of places with music and there are often girls dancing on a block of wood on the street. Such a fun town. |
This!! Galway>>>>Dublin |
