Supplemental education

Anonymous
Hi - my son is in a private middle school and rarely gets any homework, research projects etc. He will be going to a competitive public high school so I wanted him to be prepared. I don’t think changing schools is the answer but what can we do to supplement at home? For example, are there any websites you recommend? What if I had him do extra book reports?

You can try Writopia for reading and writing. They do in person and virtual classes. Question - why pay for private though when you could probably get a more challenging curriculum in your public middle school and also be better prepared for your public high school? Not being judgey - we are actually in the same boat and moving to our local public middle in the Fall.

Maybe CYT? Are you in DC area?

We're in a similar situation and hired an enrichment tutor. The tutor has our DS work on writing prompts, research, and essays. Our DS is more receptive to working with his tutor than my husband and I.
