| does anyone have information here on admissions/merit scholarships? |
I heard there were 6 MIT offers in the STEM Magnet. If that's true, that's pretty good for a class of around 100. |
| Wow! That is phenomenal. More than pretty good! |
Far better than TJ, America's #1 HS which makes me wonder... |

https://polarislist.com/best-high-schools-in-maryland search for Montgomery Blair in MD.
It gives the whole school data, which includes the CAP students, but most are coming from the STEM magnet. Blair has vastly more enrollments into Harvard, Princeton, and MIT than any other school in the state. (The website tracks enrollments, rather than acceptances, to avoid double- or triple-counting students who get accepted to multiple to schools.) |
| Blair as a whole is doing very well this year. |
I don't know much about TJ. DC is a junior at Blair STEM. All I can say is that our experience has been good. The program has a great cohort of grounded, very smart kids. |
| About half of the Blair magnet graduating class enrolls at UMD–CP every year, many with Banneker Key scholarships. STEM programs there are excellent and many families cannot or will not spend $80k/year/kid and rising on undergrad education, and/or prefer to save the funds for grad school. |
That’s an interesting list. Thanks for posting. RM comes out looking quite good also. |
Yep. we are in that zone where we don't get need-based scholarships but don't want to do the $80K/year. |
Same. DC had the stats but didn’t apply to elite schools because we cannot pay for them. |
It is a very pre selected group. Awesome for those kids. |
Seems dumb for those schools to not give such amazing, talented kids great merit aid. Why wouldn't they want kids like these at their school. Good for UMD though. Only makes their prestige keeping going up. |
Why do they list only Harvard, Princeton and MIT? Are these the top three schools everyone wants to go? The elite? Just curious |
What do you mean by ‘pre-selected’? It’s a public school. |
