Does it bother you when people bring up “country privilege” (living in a developed country) to try

to silence talking about systemic racism or White privilege.

No. Class and living standards matter hugely. A huge part of our current political impasse stems from totally ignoring such important differences while simultaneously talking too much about racism and sexism. It’s the most cynical of politics and ignores that economic issues are often even more important for non-male and non-white people.

Not really, but I'm not on social media so I don't encounter these lazy types of arguments. It's not surprising though that people have figured out how to use "x privilege" to counter another argument.

No.

It’s obviously hugely valid

It isn’t, because we should not compare ourselves to undeveloped countries, and because they’ll say “I immigrated from here from XYZ country with $0” (completely ignoring how hard it is to immigrate legally nowadays).

You just stated an opinion, not any sort of logical reasoning.

To me it seems like an apt comparison.

It annoys me when people bring up privilege of any kind. Why don’t you focus more on straightening out your own miserable life and less on others.

This. Soooooo much THIS.

When I hear someone use the term “____(insert whatever here)____-priviledge” , I know I’m hearing the mind of a moron.

It's always been hard to immigrate legally. You are discounting the experience of people with much broader worldview, who are qualified to compare the US with their country of origin.

I don’t know if immigrating from another country automatically means you have a much broader worldview. My in laws have the world view of their one city in a foreign country and five years in a small US town. I don’t think that trumps Americans who have travelled/studied/worked abroad.

Sorry to hear that you're triggered by pausing to think that the life you enjoy is largely the result of circumstance and luck.

Have never had that happen.

So what? You plan on going back to rewriting history? Utter imbecile. Focus on what you might be able to control.

Never heard that.
