Exactly. It’s an ineffective and underhanded tactic, but, here we are. |
I think bc of Steven Miller and trump’s base. |
Let's start with basics. McConnell could score points for even bringing it to the floor. If Trump refuses to sign it, at least the Senate would show it is above the fray. And it is likely that Graham-Durbin would post a veto-proof majority. |
| Schumer is effectively in control of the Senate at this point. McConnell has no leverage or bargaining room. So he schedules a vote he can’t possibly win for the middle of the night. |
If so, he didn’t have to try. McConnell and Trump got twisted up in their own tails and are now digging heels in. |
No, it’s a non-starter. Ryan won’t allow it to come to a vote in the House. GOP suicide pact. |
|
Respect is earned. Neither Trump nor McConnell have earned it at this juncture. That could change, but the American public expects more from its representatives in Washington.
The longer this goes on, the more the GOP proves it cannot govern and has no interest in appealing to anything more than the 30% of support they currently have. |
Oh my god, conservatives are dumb!
|
It would die in the house even if they had 60 votes. Can you name the 11 Senate Republicans? You can’t. |
See below. Ryan has nothing to gain politically by crossing Trump, the Freedom Caucus and the Racist Caucus (Steve King, Gohmert, etc.) by allowing Graham-Durbin to come to the floor for a vote. It would effectively put an end his Speakership. |
I don't think GOP congresspeople from COL, NV, AZ, CA, FL and TX want to face voters after opposing DACA. |
Which makes sense. He goes nuclear, the Dems who voted R back out, and he lacks a simple majority. |
Yep. But, you know, it’s schumer and the Democrats that are holding the government hostage. /s |
McConnell knows the nuclear option would seal Democratic control and impeachment. He’s gotta play the long game right now: |
| Trump has f*cked McConnell and the Americans who are losing government services. So.Much.Winning. |
