One set in the fall to assess where kids are.

Another set in the spring to see what progress kids have made.

Two SOLs? What does that mean?

Oh, are you effing kidding me? Just another reason to loathe Gatehouse.

All of the school board members and district reps were unmasked and not distancing at all of the graduations.

One look at a graduation photo from any fcps high school ceremony, and you will see what a fake show of safety this whole masking everyone at school, includijg recess is.

Elementary students are not vaccinated (yet). The CDC is (currently) requiring masks at school.

Loathing Gatehouse for this? Really?

Absolutely. Gatehouse and the school board have been ignoring recommendations all year

Masking elementary kids, particularly at outdoor recess, and their vaccinated teachers is not supported by science.

They'd have to buck VDOE to do it. It's literally on VDOE's front page:

Virginia ’s mask mandate has been updated. While indoors on school property, all students, teachers, staff, and visitors must wear a mask over their nose and mouth regardless of vaccination status. For more information visit our FAQ Page.

I thought it was dropped for outdoor recess.

FCPS has not taken a position on district-wide rolling gradebooks or not. So, at this point, it's anything goes.

I hope the governor changes something before fall.

The VDOE Special Committee to Review the Standards of Accreditation is meeting tomorrow to discuss the new testing approach as required by HB 2027 and SB 1357 (signed into law. See PowerPoint presentation, "Overview of Growth Assessments Required by 2021 Legislative Action" under June 16.

Maybe iReady will go away as the universal screener?

Wait, are 1/2 Monday's actually on the table??? Seemed like Cohen and Meran were pushing for this!

One of the options was an early release once a month.

Hi! Would someone be able to share what was actually said about half-day Mondays? Is there a time line for when these calendar changes will be decided? Would be helpful for those of us with, ya know, jobs . . .

I would not say Cohen and Meren were “pushing for this.” They were commenting on the options given. Meren was pushing for some sort of childcare to be available if this did happen…i.e. SACC. I think Cohen was the one that said to look at that option for secondary but not elementary?

No timeline was provided. And it would be one Monday per month.

Is there a reason these wouldn't be on Fridays? Would that make too much sense?

The slides didnt actually specify a day of the week. I think people just defaulted to talking about Mondays because elementary students used to have half-day Mondays. Supt Garza got rid of them. It's a double edged sword. Families need childcare, but elementary teachers get less planning time than secondary teachers.

I think for the school board to put half day anything on the table for this year after what they did to working parents for the past 15 month is ridiculous and asinine.

School should be 5 days per week, on a normla schedule with no half days beyond the normal ones already on the calendar.

This is about nothing else but making time for all that expensive CRT antiracism training they contracted with the Leadership Academy.

They are wasting teachers time, wasting our money, and wasting the opportunity for our kids to learn something valuable by adding this ridiculous half day CRT training to the calendar.

What a bunch of tone deaf people who are completely out of touch with the people they serve.
