How many floors? Would the monitor extend that far? Are you willing to literally drop everything and run if you hear something off or don't hear anything? |
Have you considered wearing the baby while going down to do laundry, and put the laundry in the stroller? |
To be honest even when I was in college and I didn't have kids, basement laundry was just the worst. I'd seriously consider that a deal breaker. I remember one time the dryer broke and I had to carry wet heavy laundry up 5 flights back to my apartment so I could hang it to dry. It was awful. |
Op, when I had a baby to 1.5 year old I lived in a building like this. Guess what? I brought my baby every time I did laundry. It’s really the only responsible thing to do. Does it suck? Yes. But think how much more it will suck if something awful happens because you were too lazy to tote your baby with you to do laundry. |
The thirsty misogynistic mommy shaming lives deep with in you. So gross. There’s nothing wrong with running to a laundry room or going outside to get tour mail. FFS. |
| I don’t think there is anything different with going to your basement building laundry then going to your basement home laundry when you live in some 6000 sq ft Midwestern mansion |
Lol Midwestern mansion |
I was going to say this. The laundry room in my house growing up was farther than the laundry room in my last apartment. |
Yes, there absolutely is something wrong with going to the basement of a high rise and leaving your baby. I was on the 14th floor, it took time to get the elevator, get the laundry in, and get the elevator back. What if you lock yourself out and someone finds out you left your baby? That’s a cps call for sure. What if there is a fire? What if mom has a medical emergency? Going to the basement of a high rise is different than across the hall or to the basement of a regular sized house. There is nothing thirsty or misogynistic for telling the truth. Especially since I’ve been in ops shoes. |
| I would be fine with the basement laundry room as long as the monitor reaches and you don’t linger. |
It's illegal. |
|
8 pages of what ... bottom line it's illegal to leave a child unattended. Do it and you are a sucky parent.
I have six kids, this is a hard no. |
| Ask the McCanns |
| No. |
| If you can get a monitor with video and sound that reaches that far I think it would be fine. In addition, maybe call someone (like your mom or a friend) and let them know you will call them back once you’ve returned —this is just a backup in case something terrible were to happen and if they didn’t hear from you they’d know to alert the authorities. We have the Nanit and love it because it uses WiFi and connects to your phone. A cheaper alternative is the Wyze camera. We use the monitor to water the plants outside and hang out outdoors when they baby is sleeping. |
