WHY aren't our children being educated on Mondays?

Some of the elementary schools have a STEM special.

I don't understand why this isn't uniform across elementary schools in the SAME school system. That's BS. Everyone should get a STEM special, a foreign language special, and have a full time AART. Its ridiculous.

Our school has STEAM, and for lower grades, a Healthy Habits class. Laurel Ridge.

Healthy Habits class must be a joke. Our school has teachers eating like maniacs in front of the screen.

LOL. I remember when school closed 2 hours early on Mondays and parents freaked out about that.
No school on Mondays must really get folks riled up.

+1

We had early release EVERY Wednesday for years.

Some people just like to complain.

I was told that a few years ago schools had to choose a foreign language (fles program) or steam (science/tech/etc)
The school I teach at has steam, so we don’t have fles.
Other positions that are “special” are based on the way a principal spends money (and sometimes wastes money on coaches.)

Some schools have both of those (STEAM and FLES).

Our school has NEITHER and a half time AART. What the heck is our principal "buying"?

Okay? I feel like I have seen a lot of anti-on-camera-eating posts lately. If you are going to criticize a teacher for something, that seems a pretty damn point to focus on.

Sorry, that seems a PETTY point to focus on.

I just feel like... do I need to be made any more self-conscious about the camera? I keep it on to serve as a positive example. I dress up, I smile, I sit in my home office... God forbid I lapse and eat a doughnut.

Eating on camera is disgusting. Are you really so hungry that you can’t wait until break? You must snack all day? Like a cow?

Eating on camera is disgusting. Whoever is doing it should stop.

Taking a random sip of coffee is fine.

are you joking??? asynchronous work is code for "teacher wants to sleep."

LOL

I also thought that was funny because Mondays are my busiest day. I often have two to three meetings and use a large chunk of that time for grading and to plan for the week.

NP. Wasn’t the overtime for grading and planning done in their own time after teaching hours supposed to justify the months of vacation that teachers get each year that other professions don’t get? I thought it was supposed to even out.

During typical school years, I work 75-80 hours/week.
During Covid, I've worked 70-75 hours/week.

I'd say that still balances out to far more hours/year than most professions work.

What grade/subject do you teach and please break down those 70-75 hours in detail so that parents who think you're working less than 49 hours can understand. Break it down like 5 hours grading essays; 5 hours making new slides; 3 hours replying to parent or student emails.

If you are the teacher that originally posted the hours above, do not reply to this question. This person is not your employer and you don't need to justify anything to them. It's a trap, and don't fall for it.

Funniest answer ever. Sounds like this teacher knows that the 75 hours teacher was exaggerating. Or flat out lying.

It isn't an exaggeration or lie.

Secondary teachers who are also instructional leaders have at least 5 hours of meetings per week in addition to "just" teaching. Add in all the other duties of teachers, especially grading when everything is essay or short response for over 150 students, and it takes a huge amount of time.

Actually, I don’t eat on camera but God forbid I should lapse. I really hope you aren’t a parent or if you are that you have only sons.

True! Our MS tortures our kids to "check in" for 15 minutes. Our HS offers a google form the week before. It's all BS just to cover up lack of teaching hours= so their checking in is "a full day." BS! Just like PE (please spare us!!! one has to hear a teacher drone on and on, the other just logs in and then they are dismissed- FFS, just waive the damn requirement.. all school are paid anyway but just spare the kids from more time in front of the screen for NOTHING!)

Wtf are you even talking about. Our school isn't teaching *hit on ANY day. At least on Mondays there is less pressure.
