No what I regret is not having changed MY name as soon as I was able -- because it sucks donkey balls and I swear I have never forgiven my parents.

I literally think I would have had a better life with a better first name.

Ha I hate my name too. Once I tried to go by my middle one though and I kept ignoring people when they said my middle name. So I’m back to my awful name. At least I gave it a go.

Guys, my name is Karen. I always hated my name and now with this whole "a Karen called the cops on a black person for existing" stuff, I dislike it even more.

Go by Kay.

I had the perfect girls name tucked away and I actually wince when I think about the fact that I will never use it. Makes me sad!!

I must know what this unused name is! Mine is Beatrice. I know it’s trendy now, but it wasn’t when I suggested it for our DC a decade ago. We wound up having a boy. I always thought we’d have a second and if a girl, she would have been a Beatrice. Life took a different turn but I still think about the Bea that wasn’t.

Woah. I’m pregnant with #3 now and we went for it just to use Beatrice. My dh and I just had a longing for years for our Bea. I think we always knew we’d have 3 kids but had #2 been a Beatrice, maybe not! We talked about baby bea so much that our family never felt complete, dh more so than me.

And how ARE Sarah and Elizabeth doing these days? My, don't we feel superior.

I’m laughing. My neighbors growing up were sisters named Elizabeth and Sarah. They are in their 50s now. I actually like both names.

I was one of three Elizabeths on my (small) basketball team when I was in elementary school (in the 1970s).

Am I the only one who gave their child a common name who doesn’t regret it?

I also grew up with a Sarah and Elizabeth sibling set. They are 44 and 46.

Two of my kids are Zachary and Alexandra. I don't regret their names at all. Isabella, on the other hand ...

I just worry he’ll be walked all over due to his name. Should we have named him Alex or Michael?

If it makes you feel better, I know a complete jerk (that's how I'll describe him...Jeff won't let me use the word I'd like to use.) named Ben.

They've never heard of John F. Kennedy referred to as "Jack?"

Sometimes I wish I had picked something a little less common. I love Reuben and Abraham now.

Michael and Thomas are kind of boring, but at least they're not ugly like Reuben and Abraham.

My neighbors dog is named Reuben. It makes me think of the sandwich.

I mean, so is Zipporah, but that doesn’t make it any less hideous of a name.

Anonymous wrote:Regret might be a strong word, but we named our second boy Alexander. It's a great name but I just don't love it the way I love our first boy name. There were a couple of other boy names I really liked that DH hated. He wanted to name our second boy Magnus, which I thought was nuts. Now I kind of wish we had gone with Magnus... it just kind of fits him.

I love the nickname Zander, if you want something edgier.

Alexander is a beautiful name

np I think Sasha is a cooler nn. Zander is stuck in the 90s

We named our son Sacha. My family is Russian so it’s a very common name for boys there but we went with the CH because my husbands family is French. We get a lot of folks asking if we named him after the actor.

I wish I gave my DS a middle name after my dad. I am from another country, and the spelling was different, so I gave him just a middle name common in both countries. I thought at that moment, no, give dad's name... But, as I just gave birth, it felt like a was in the moment rush decision.
I regret not just trusting my instinct. DS is 21, and I've regretted this decision ever after. My dad passed away in 2018; he was the best grandpa that DS could ever wish for! DS would have loved to have grandpa's name. My dad would have loved it too. My dad could not love DS any more than he did, but I am sure he would have like that I named my kid, even the middle name, after him.

Hey, I just posted below you! My DS's last name is Aleksandar. Sasha (Sasha is a common nickname in my country too!) I agree CH for Sasha is just wrong to me.

DP. I technically like my name, but HATE, HATE, HATE how common it is. I’ve never forgiven my parents either.

You need to grow up. There are worse things a parent can do!

Not really. It’s Waltraut. Not that’s not a joke. It’s a German girls name.
