And what about next years when they don’t come back? |
Um yeah right. As soon as it’s 5 days again they’ll all come back. Give it up. Your attempts at a power play with no power are just petty. |
Seriously even the ones that were are remote now mostly through January. The ones that go back in the peak like us are rolling the dice. |
There is only one consistency: lack of data. We do not routinely test teachers and students. Kids are asymtomatic spreaders and schools are claiming with mitigation you couldn’t have gotten it at school. This does not = proof it is safe. |
That’s fair. But people are dying because the feds can’t do their job. Eventually, one of those people could be you or your sister or your mother or your kid. At the rate we are now, every month vaccinations lag, 100,000 people die. If can’t reimburse PCPs they can’t stay open to treat people. If we can’t get genomic sequencing up and running, we can’t track this new variant. If we can’t scale up rapid testing, we can’t keep you safe in school. If we can’t push out logistics to hospitals, they ration care. It can be not your problem so screw it. But at the rate this is devolving, it will become your problem because you or someone you love will get COVID when they didn’t have to, will die because of inadequate care for COVID or some other emergency, will have cancer progress because you can’t get screened. It does make me wonder what would have happened if we were fighting an actual war. |
I think one issue is that there is such a wide spectrum as far as what people consider to be “safe”. Whether it be going to school, eating outside or inside at a restaurant, getting a haircut, going to the grocery store, traveling, etc. people look at each situation, consider the risks and arrive at an opinion and decision. Some won’t see going into school as safe until everyone is vaccinated and there are no cases. Some will become very concerned over just a few cases and others will be willing to accept more. “Safe” is difficult to define. As far as bringing staff in before students arrive, there is something to be said for having everyone in without students if the plan holds for students to return. I have been teaching by choice from the classroom since we started this SY (FCPS) and if you haven’t been back in the building since the spring it does take some time to get reacclimated to being there. I think back to March and how I felt when I first went to the grocery store compared to now or the first time I was back in a restaurant. You realize it isn’t so bad and you get better accustomed to what it’s like. I’ve seen teachers come back into the building for short amounts of time since September and you can tell they are not nearly as comfortable as those who have been there for a while. Some seem uncomfortable even stopping to say “hello”. If by chance someone truly has been at home and has not really ventured at all since March it would be that much more difficult for them to go straight back with students. |
Please find any email or news release that states he reached consensus with the task force. I did not see that written and heard otherwise. |
You know why they are not comfortable? Because community spread is at an all time high |
Dude you’re a fed working at home. You reallllly do not need to be telling other people they should die for their jobs. |
Were teachers told yesterday to report on the 4th? Or had they been told previously that was the date, and the recent email just confirmed that.
It would be extremely short notice if they were just notified yesterday. |
You all realize this is about Falls Church City and not FCPS, right? |
Yes. Why do you ask? |
FCCPS teacher here. Previously, we were always allowed to teach from home when school virtual. Yesterday Noonan made an announcement that dates for students returning in person were being pushed back but staff were expected to report on the 4th and every day afterwards. This afternoon secondary staff were contacted and told this decision has been reevaluated and now they need to return in person on the 11th instead of the 4th. |
16:34 again. I don’t have an issue teaching from the building 1.5 weeks before students return. Mandating all of us return 2.5 weeks before students was not necessary. |
I’m a Fed who is working from home because schools aren’t open. It’s not exactly in my COVID best interest to push teachers to reopen. Your look at this on a micro level. I’m telling you what it looks like for those of us with a macro view. And it isn’t pretty. It suck for me too. Im scared I’m terrified about what happens if we need medical care and can’t get it. But the longer we wait, the scarier it gets. That’s just reality. And it’s like running up credit card debt. Eventually everyone pays a price. |
