Sen. Chuck Schumer and Sen. Liz Warren just proposed forgiving $50,000 in student debt

They are so out of touch.

I couldn’t disagree with this anymore.

Nope. It’s Trump who will have the power to sign it and approve it.

Why does he not share in the blame? Or is Trump just a dumb figurehead POTUS?

Why would you expect that? You no longer have student loans.

It's a troll. Just ignore. They spam the same talking point in every thread.

I'm not a troll and I'm not the poster of this question. I paid off my student loans and so did my DH. We made sacrifices in order to do so. Every single person I know with large student loans has them as a result of poor decisions regarding which college to attend/major in or because they take every deferment possible/spend their money otherwise. Those who actually paid off their loans need to receive a benefit as well.

+1

I think it's more important to reform the system. This punishes people who managed to pay off their debt or who worked their way through school to avoid it.

X1000 absolutely do not support this. I worked my butt off to pay off $110k to the detriment of other personal and financial options. I’m a Mass voting democrat and my senator will be getting an email.

OK, “Dem.”

Oh, can’t have your fellow Democrats thinking for themselves, can we?

You can thing whatever you want.
I understand being pissed if you’ve already paid them
Off. True question: are you also pissed about The unemployment bonuses?

I am also a democrat and I don't agree with student loan forgiveness. I am actively anti-student loan forgiveness. I also don't agree with the unemployment bonuses. I don't see why people should get more money on unemployment then they made working. Unemployment should have been increased to match their average weekly salary, up to the $600 week.

Nope - this is strictly a vote getting proposal.

I know, right?

I paid off $25,000 in loans by 2004. Can I get a retroactive loan forgiveness?

This is really smart on Chuck and Liz. They are giving Trump the credit.

They will let Trump give “a huge gift” to young people in an effort to buy their vote. It puts Congressional GOP in a tough spot, since they too want those young voters.

Well played, Senate Dems.

Most educated people see right through this attempted Democratic manipulation. .

I don’t agree with social security/ Medicare for rich people like you - where can I sign up to deprive you of such socialism?

There are ways to do this that are less “offensive”. Tax credits. Scholarships. Interest free re financing. Reductions for taking certain majors perhaps that we want (IT, Medicine?). Grants to institutions to reduce college tuition. Etc etc

Yeah I’d be pushed if my GWU costs which were like $100k, now somebody else gets for free. I could have put that money towards retirement.

Maybe make the trade that the younger generation can never touch our already-paid social security and Medicare?

As soon as I’m not forced to pay into it, you can deprive me of it.
