Will there be Halloween this year?

Anonymous
I"m not planning on handing out candy at this point. Unless there is a vaccine or cases go way down just expect it is cancelled.

I'm leaving candy out, probably, but wiill not be "handing" it out. Well decorate the porch and restock once in a while.

Again. It won’t be canceled. It can’t be canceled. Families that don’t want to participate won’t. That’s how it will work.

Of course it can be canceled. Don't think it will be though.

You can't cancel a date. October 31st will come and go like it does every year. You can't legally force people to stay in their houses and not walk around knocking on doors, for one night.

Again. It HAS been canceled, and more than once, in specific locations in the US.

Why do you even want it cancelled? Is it because you don’t want your children to know otters are trick or treating without out them? I know someone like this. They get very upset when others do things their children aren’t able to.

I suspect governors will not make state-wide ordinances (except maybe NJ bc it’s a hotspot), but smaller localities may. I personally am not concerned with this, as it would be impossible to cancel Halloween where I live. People simply can ignore any ordinance that is made. And they would!

NJ WAS a hotspot. They’re doing pretty well now.

PP here and I do not want it canceled, never said I did. I think safe accommodations can be made.

Way to be obtuse! We were not talking about cancelling the date! People can walk around but you cant force people to open up and give you free candy!

I don't get this. How does one cancel Halloween? Its not an official event that needs to be scheduled, planned, or canceled.

DUH! I was just saying that the pp ( is that you? were talking about being allowed to walk around the neighborhood on Halloween and I am assuming wanting to collect candy from the neighbors. Are you always this slow?

Talking about it is an easy way to get people riled up about cancel culture and to ramp up for asking if there's a war on Christmas.

I do a big Halloween display in my yard and probably won't do it at all this year. I don't think there is a way to do it safely so I don't want to encourage kids to tot.

It's a big day for socializing and I have neighbors who ignore social distancing/mask wearing. I'm sure they and other neighbors will want to hang out and chat and several of them probably won't have masks. One of them showed up on my doorstep without a mask to return an item she borrowed. When I opened my door she tried to walk in my house. Her family is socializing all over the place with no masks. I don't feel like putting up with her or trying to manage this kind of behavior, so I'm just bowing out. I doubt I'll decorate or put out candy.

Good point.

Especially since, at least in this area, Halloween is not a holiday that can be cancelled or rescheduled. It is what it is.

NJ resident here. Things are going well now and we would really like for things to keep going well, so if we have to sacrifice Halloween for a year or two, it would certainly be worth it. We went through three months of hell on Earth to get to where we are now.

I want to create a device in which you press a lever with your foot and a witch cackles and a piece of candy drops out into your TOT bag. Perhaps I will begin this engineering project. Anyone know where I could cut corners and buy such a thing?

Counties put out hours for trick or treating so I don’t think it will be a stretch for them to say no trick or treating if they decide it’s warranted. Whether people follow it or not will be up to them as I seriously doubt any ban would be enforced.

That must be a Maryland & Virginia thing.
