Tattletale? |
| I've been trying to find the best thread to inquire on Stone Ridge Lower School. All of the threads pertaining to the Lower School date back to 2020. I'm looking for more current input especially among those parents who have daughters that have been accepted for the 2021-2022 school year and are planning to enroll/parents with daughters already attending the lower school. Our daughter has been in the MOCO public school system, has been accepted to the Lower School for the 2021-2022 school year. I've had it up to here with MCPS...two excellent teachers...but our daughter needs something far more than what is being offered. I'm struggling because I can't tell if I'm doing this for her or for me. Our daughter is still so young and has made many friends, but really hasn't made friends, if you will given that Kindergarten was a shortened in person experience while 1st grade has only semi started back up as you know. Academically, I'm terribly frustrated with the MCPS curriculum and our daughter is bored, to the point of anger and frustration. Anyway, the price tag is hefty and there are three other children behind our rising 2nd grader.... Any input on the lower school is welcome!? Thank you for your time! |
| You sound like us a few years back. We moved our daughter from a highly regarded public to Stone Ridge lower school. The price tag feels shocking for that grade level, but if you can swing it, and you have already given public a shot and are disappointed, I am guessing you will be thrilled with Stone Ridge, as we have been. We also had wonderful teachers and a great community in public school but there's just no comparison to the personalized attention, nurturing environment, high expectations, and the positive culture of faith and values at Stone Ridge. Especially you think your daughter would thrive in a small, all-girls atmosphere. I think you have to trust your gut and you know if you're missing something. No school is perfect, and you have to weigh all the factors, but I highly recommend the lower school at Stone Ridge. |
| I’m a conservative but embarrassed by the homophobia here. Stone Ridge has many issues but the sexuality of the US head is not any of them. He’s a great guy and any school would be lucky to have him. |
| It rocks. |
+1 Fellow conservative parent and we LOVE him. He is wonderful. Not sure why his sexuality is being discussed here - it's not relevant to his job performance. |
| SR is an excellent academic institution but the mean girl culture needs work. |
|
We love the families at SR and the HS is top notch. As has been discussed in other threads here (ones that have been removed from DCUM for some reason) SR has taken a definite turn to the left lately.
Time will only tell if the HOS is in step with the parent population, but I don’t know a single parent (including many who are otherwise very liberal) who are on board with the critical race theory dogma that is being pushed on the kids when the administration thinks parents aren’t paying attention. |
Yeah, no one says that because its "champing," not "chomping." |
Wow, you found a minor spelling/usage error that someone made almost 10 months ago. Good for you. You anonymously appear to be marginally smarter than another anonymous person on DCUM when the topic is horse-related idioms. |
HAHA I also thought it was chomping, as in a horse chomping on the bit ready to go! Oh looky look: Here's was goggle says, guess you are both right. Lucky day! But if this is what one gets from a stone ridge education I'll pass: "The original phrase is, indeed, champing at the bit, but chomping at the bit emerged in America in the 1930s according to the Oxford English Dictionary and chomp has overtaken champ in common use. A Google web search for chomping at the bit returns about twice as many results as a search for champing at the bit." |
Similar situation here. Were you on the call they had last night for new students/parents in lower school? That gave me more confidence in our decision to move from MCPS to SR. The smaller class sizes will mean your DD gets more personal attention. |
I noticed that the recent thread which referred to the segment that Laura Ingraham did on Fox News about CRT was removed. Thought that was weird tbh. |

We love SR. Have a 6th grader new to school this year. She is doing ok but distance learning has been very hard and wish she could have gone FT sooner. It is a lovely school full of great parents, awesome tight knit community, caring teachers, beautiful campus and nice girls.
I would and have recommended to many. It does skew liberal and we are moderates but as of now, it is ok but hoping the focus remains on strong academics. It has a great reputation and the rep is deserved. My daughter is very proud of her school and that says a lot! New parents, don’t worry, you will be happy. |

The commitment to critical race theory is strong, as it is with most of the independent schools in this area. The Fox News piece highlighted just one event at SR, but there have been many others and will continue to be. Obviously Laura Ingraham has a contact within the community that shared the information with her.
I guess time will tell how this all plays out. |
