How is her life ruined?

By causing denials from every college she applied to.

Something tells me she caused them herself. And according to the filing, she is at U-Penn...hardly a slacker school. Seems like other than the lawsuit, things worked out find for her.

Riiiiiight! You would love for your DC to swap place with her, if your DC would get admission to Penn, other than the law suit of course.

Not for an URM, competitive athlete, and academic who is from the choicest private school in the DMV area and a full pay to boot.

There was a one day story in the LA times because of a peripheral connection to the college counselor to the stars. Presumably other papers haven’t followed up because they don’t cover silly “stories”. And there’s no story here, just some self important parents who thought that their child deserved admittance to any number of Ivy League schools. And those are basically all the schools to which she applied as a senior, against the school’s advice to diversify her applications. And when she didn’t get in, it was someone else’s fault, of course. And now this doctor and his family want to play victim and hurl around incendiary but ridiculous allegations like racism and discrimination.

Apparently she just wasn’t that compelling of an applicant. Her grades were nothing special in a very competitive applicant pool and she was never recruited by any cisch, despite her parents’ spin. As as a child if successful professionals, she’s not a very compelling URM case either. The only aspect of her file that may be “underrepresented” at Sidwell and the universities to which she sought admission was “scammer.”

NYT likes stories about discrimination even tenuous ones.

I am not even sure what this means. I am pretty confident I wouldn't sue a school because I was unhappy with my child's college options despite ignoring the school's advice to diversify the range of schools to apply to. The parents sound like wonderful people (that is sarcasm) and the kid will forever be tainted by this lawsuit. Who in their right mind would ever hire her knowing the parents might sue them if she were to get reprimanded at work or not get a promotion.

+1.

The more tenous the better to display creative storytelling.

Fortunately the “Obama school” angle seems to be played out.

I mean, the fact that her name will show up in this lawsuit is far worse.

+1. Terrible job at parenting. Terrible abuse of the system to try and get some money. Terrible of lawyer to even take this case.

The family is from Upper Marlboro, which is kind of like the Palermo of scammers and fakers.

Lots of posters here siding against the family and giving Sidwell a pass. Seems to me that Sidwell handled this situation with only their reputation in mind.
