Which school is harder to get in, Jefferson or Blair magnet

There are NY articles about Blair
Like I said, you're clueless
In any case, Blair outshines TJ and makes TJ looking like third class.
You should get out of your bubble. Do you actually know what that means ?

Its location in a higher crime area makes some people in MoCo hesitate to consider it. Blair loses potential candidates who prefer to stay in the W schools or apply to other magnets.

They really are not comparable. TJ is nationally known and Blair is only really known in Montgomery County.

It pulls from a larger area but it is much larger..more than 5x larger. Before I came to DC I had never heard of either of them honestly..

A TPMS parent who had the school directory claimed the largest group there had Silver Spring addresses so this makes sense that Blair would be similar.

At Blair SMAC the high school that sends the most students is actually Wootton. I remember it coming up at a Blair Magnet information meeting I actually find there are tons of students coming from Rockville, Bethesda and Potomac as well as kids zoned for Blair and Northwood.

Yes, Wootton is the largest feeder to Blair SMAC. Wootton is further out than Whitman or Churchill but there seems to be less concern among the Wootton crowd about the overall environment and location of Blair.

This is really helpful when comparing Blair, TJ, W schools, and private schools.

Absolutely remarkable stats. Even privates like Exeter or Andover are no comparison to Blair magnet.

True but what Exeter and Andover lack in scores, scholarships, etc. they make up in name, legacy, heritage and social/business connections. Its nice to know that MCPS is doing well despite all the hoopla on this board. I expect Blair in the next decade to be even tougher to get into but I do hope that they would expand like TJ. I might have to get DD a tutor next year to get on the Blair track in the future.

I'm really surprised that anyone at Blair has ever heard of Exeter or Andover. I don't think that either school is concerned that Blair is drawing away their applicants. Hilarious.

The magnet student directory indicates this isn't accurate.

I thought Wootton was second after TP..which makes sense.

Somehow I trust the official residency data that the school has and shares at the information meeting over your eyeballing of the PTA directory.

This is what we were told by BLAIR at accepted students day last year. Maybe it changed this year but TP has 25 seats reserved in the MS magnet and 1/2 the kids in SMAC come from TP.

That does not necessarily mean their home MS school is TP. They can still be part of the Wootten (or other) cluster.

Wootton is a high school cluster and TPMS is a middle school. In the past some Wootton kids used to go to TPMS as well as Frost and Cabin John.

In the past Wootton was the largest out of boundary feeder into TPMS. In boundary TPMS was equally or a little higher but those were and still are set aside seats for in boundary students that do not need to compete against the other schools for a spot. For Blair SMACs, some of the Wootton kids would have been coming from TPMS. Blair SMACs doesn't have the easier to get in set aside seats so the in boundary TPMS kids didn't necessarily get in. Now that Wootton can't send kids to TPMS, you'll see Frost and Cabin John become the highest feeder schools unless they change the high school admissions.

Churchill has lots of kids that could get in but there has always been less interest in Blair from this cluster.

So Wooton isn't the largest feeder, but TP which is in boundary for Blair.

Saying they could get in but didn't seems dishonest.

1 in 10 for Blair and 1 in 6 for TJ. So mathematically speaking Blair is. Not sure why it matters though.
