You can use your ez pass in another vehicle but you have to put the license plate on file with the ez pass people.
We didn't add the lic plate number added and got a ticket in the mail after switching the the ez box to a car. I called and added the license number and they forgave it. |

Without any warning or any letter from Ez pass authority Ny recently my son received a letter in red envelope letting him know that he owes $3000 what was already shocking enough however when he contacted the E Pass Authority there was even a bigger shock for him that he actually owes $11000 in e z pass along threatening him with the legal consequences like losing registration and his driving licence in case of non-payment. And they told him that his case is already with collection agency and the Authority can not help him in this matter anymore and he has to contact with collection agency. Upon contacting collection agency he learned the only deal he can get is to pay the the half of amount about $5000 to clear it or in case of instalment he has to pay the entire amount $11000.
But what he ever received in mail was the red envelope, i mentioned above, an only first and the final notice. No warning letters of any kind prior to this notice. EZPA is selling poor people to the corporate vultures like these collection agencies. |
You aren't allowed to do this. It's car specific. |
He’s lying to you - he absolutely knew he owed them. |
Can I switch my E-ZPass transponder to another vehicle? Yes. You can switch the transponder from one vehicle to another as long as you use it on a vehicle with the same vehicle type. Contact the Service Center at 1-877-762-7824 to request additional mounting strips so that you can move your E-ZPass transponder between vehicles. |

| NO this happened to us too. You have to register the car to the EZ pass. We took it in a rental car and got dinged. You have to call them and give them the car info. |
| So you never got the invoices for driving without EZ pass? Funny, I got them within a month. |
| So, they actually charged the cc they had on file? With old license plates? So, they are charging twice? |
Be careful when using your EZ pass in a car rental. If the former renter violated a ton of tolls, or the next renter does the same and you havent deleted the car rental license plate from your acct, your EZ pass account will be charged fir the unpaid tolls/fines. I always just pay the cash/toll in person at the booth and never use my EZ pass when renting, because the license plate from the rental will signal the tolls that may not be mine. Does that make sense? I'm not writing clearly today.....I guess you could just rent the transponder from the rental agency for the daily fee to avoid any problems. |
So...I have used my ezpass over the holidays (without registration) in a rental car in RI, in a DC taxi from DCA to arlington and in an uber from DC to my house...and in my car. My EZ pass is in my husband's account...should he check we didn't violate rules here? BTW, I did not know that you had to register it...I just thought that if the EZ pass was registered and the credit card worked, all was well. |
| and why don't dc cabs and uber drivers have ez pass? Now they can't use 66 for free! So frustrating. |
This has been my experience. When I got my new car, I didn't immediately register it with easy pass. I had it for years before there was a problem - the transponder was not read correctly and I got a violation letter in the mail. When I explained that I do indeed own an easy pass, they debited the money owed from my account and told me that I should register my new car so there wouldn't be problems in the future. |
This! I have started calling the ubers once they are assigned to ask if they can travel on 66. |
