| Well, the name calling began on 5/30 of this thread, so I was responding to that. I totally agree with keeping zoning as is. A few homes is far less traffic. The problem is the church didn't sell the property to home builders. |

I kindly disagreed with these people -they have blocked me ?- I would like to humbly point out that many local families are struggling with caretaking for seniors. There was no room at any "inn" for us during our struggle with Alzheimer's (none close - especially in traffic) - Something like this could have literally changed our lives. Seniors deserve to age in place - in their own community - close to their friends and family. Open debate is a healthy thing. These guys just blocked my post because I disagreed with their position. #thesruggleisreal #enddementia #endalzheimers #caregivers #caretakers #alzheimers #alzheimerscare #saynotosunrise #endalz #seniors #love #mclean If you are going to call out a public official and post a million signs - stand by your cause - don't block people who dissent - encourage civilized debate - state your name. !
I never get political but - wow - really? @saynotosunrise |
| Unbelievable the short sided selfishness - can't wait until you people need a senior living facility - the reason why they want to build this it is so that people in the community can live in an assisted living place and be close to their families and their grandchildren and their friends... the traffic issue is absolutely crap my kids go to haycock to I drive that road every day - your signs are offensive and your tactics selfish and cowardly |
There are already multiple AL facilities like this in McLean. McLean trends old already and putting yet another senior facility there is a terrible idea. |
Why is it a terrible idea? There's obviously a tremendous need for another AL facility in the area. This sort of nimbyism is befuddling. |
| let them have their fight. they will be the ones to suffer later when they have to go far to ashburn or lorton or wherever far away to see their spouse or parents in a home. |
Right, because it's beyond the pale that such facilities can't also be built in western McLean, Vienna and Great Falls. Every single one of them has to be in the same part of McLean, or else it's Ashburn or Lorton.

The traffic argument is absurd. The analysis used to support the traffic hysteria suggests that the Sunrise facility would create a 239 unit increase in intersection uses, whereas SFH development would create a 60-70 unit increase.
Ok, so that's 180 more cars over the course of a day. That's about 5 per hour over a 16 hour useful day. That's on top of the THOUSANDS of cars already using the intersection! The catastrophic increase the NIMBYs are citing is literally less than one extra car every ten minutes. |
Yes, there are multiple AL facilities and they are basically full. The largest of which, Vinson Hall. is restricted only to certain Federal and Military retirees. I live nearby and I am for the Sunriseand think the traffic will be minimal. This is the latest in several attempts by the neighborhood to torpedo any development. Ironically it comes from the communities that are relatively recent and have added FAR more traffic to the area than anything that could be built on the property in question. They should put their money where their mouth is and pony up what it cost to buy it and make it a park if that is really what they want. $20k a piece should do it. |
+1 Their insight is nonexistent. |
| We have nothing against retirement homes. Sunrise's high fees are another story. The size of the project is simply too large for the site. |
They are all full. The people who built the community YOU live in deserve to stay here. "McLean trends old..." - you will be old some day. Or more likely you will have to take care of your aging parents. If they aren't retired Military - try getting to any of the available assisted living options before or after work. I just went through this. There is no availability for seniors in McLean. The need for this is tremendous. I really can't believe the opposition. The signs are obnoxious and the sentiments / arguments / the way it's all presented is extremely crass. |

Oh and I just went on the saynotosunrise website.
They have completely distorted the "what it would look like" Just flat out lying about many things. Hopefully they won't be taken seriously. I am going to see what I can do about having their signs removed from our roads. |
| The people who live around there should be celebrating a Sunrise development, lest the space otherwise be turned into something like that tacky LAmbiance of McLean subdivision across the street. At least Sunrise won't bring more kids into the overcrowded schools. |
