+100 So true. Get over it. Or spend your whining time complaining about something else you think doesn't exist like climate change.

LOL! Lots of us know tons of kids. Most of the high school teachers I know did not want the change.

My kids didn't love going to school early--but they did and did fine--as do most of them. If you think thirty minutes is going to change your life, good for you. I think it is ridiculous that FCPS is spending money on this change and turning all schools and households upside down. Rush hour is going to shock people with the buses on the road. And, the afternoon rush hour will be worse.

This was a political issue driven by people who are convinced that all will be rainbows and unicorns if their kids can just go to school thirty minutes later. What a crock.

I know 50 minutes will be a big change. I saw it every Wednesday when my kid didn't have to be to high school until 8.

BS. Unless you live really close to the school, your child needs to allow more time to get there on time. MIne was driving and said it took him 10-20 minutes longer to get there--and we are only three miles away.

Sorry. School is down a major traffic artery and my kids still get to sleep in at least 30-40 minutes even with traffic. I call that a win.

Hey, at least there's some evidence of climate change. There never was any evidence of a start time problem.

But in any case, I can't wait to see what has be cut to keep the SLEEP hypocrites happy.

I think it is pretty clear: they will be happy to cut sports.

How are they hypocrites? Sounds like you don't know what the word means.

And if depriving teens of necessary sleep when their brains are developing isn't enough evidence for you, you're beyond help.

Sounds like you don't know who needs more sleep. Hint: It's not high school kids.

Hypocrisy is when you champion more sleep for kids and then turn around and cut it for those who need it most.

High school is four years, and middle school is only two. I'm sure they took that into account as well. In my opinion and the opinion of most, they made the right decision without a doubt.

Why not? How many sports start early in the morning or keep kids at school late so they end up doing homework into the wee hours of the night? SLEEP advocates should not be advocating for paying for sports as well. Varsity sports participation negates any advantage a later high school time would have. High School varsity sports players are cramming in school work whether school starts at 7:30 or 8:30.

Sports helped my kid just as much as academics. He learned to manage his time.

I started driving my kid a few months into the school year because she was so exhausted and saving that half hour made a huge change in her overall energy level and her performance. Can't wait for the conniption you guys are going to have if they push the start time to 8:30.

Can someone tell me how we hear this song and dance every year... and then end up with a surplus?

Did the schools get all the money they were asking for? NO!

Was their a considerable increase from last year? YES!

Their projections are just that projections not actual costs! The county supervisors just refused to be extorted this time! They propose cuts to the programs that they know MOST parents will scream and shout about to force the supervisors to give more money. The need for THIS much more is not there.

Yup. Exactly. As the math proves, there are no cuts.
