Beauvoir is still the "cheapest" (for lack of a better word) of the so called "big three". |
| The school rates I posted are the ones that day that were posted on the school websites. I think all had been updated for 2008-2009 except, obviously, Beauvoir's. Of course, NONE of the rates include aftercare and I have no idea how much that costs(we dont use it). Also, note that most of those schols have additional fees for lunch and activities and parents' assoc in excess of $1,000 which are mostly mandatory. We just got the bill for those and my husband asked what they were and could not understand why lunch and activities were not wrapped in with the larger fee. I laughed that he is so clueless but I do pay the bills. The extra fees tacked on are to make the tuition look lower than it is. My husband was curious how people on financial aid pay those fees, if financial aid covers that too. Anyone know? Just curious. Also, does FA cover aftercare? |
| Current Beauvoir parent here. Lunch is included in Beauvoir's tuition and there are no other extra fees. We also receive financial aid and it covers aftercare on the same percentage. For instance, for we received 10% financial assistance toward tuition then we would receive 10% assistance toward aftercare. |
Indeed, taking into account the fact that lunch is included at Beauvoir, while GDS kids are brown-bagging, the gap between Beauvoir tuition and GDS tuition is even larger than it seems, especially in the upper grades. Like most Beauvoir parents, I am busy all day in meetings of secret cabals of the wealthy and powerful, and really appreciate not having to take time to make lunch. Between secretly running the world and the time I devote to my hobby--joining other Beauvoir parents in making the relatively less well-off feel uncomfortable around us--who has time to cook lobsters for the kids' lunches every day?

All of these additional fees (including aftercare) are disclosed on the various websites you just have to read carefully, as you should. I don't understand how any parent can get a bill from one of these school and be surprised - isn't this the kind of think that you ask about at open houses and such. BTW, aftercare at Beauvoir is $9 and hour if you are enrolled - $12 if you are using it on a drop-in basis. |
Good one!!!!

Question on GDS. Is it that they do not offer lunch at all or just that you have to pay extra. Big diference in my mind since I have neither the desire or the ability to make lunch everyday. |
| They don't offer lunch, at least not in the early grades. |
St Patrick's lunch is catered by Ridgewell's just like Beauvoir but we have to pay an extra, mandatory fee for this outside of tuition! Also, a mandatory student activity fee! What a racket!
So, GDS does not have a catered lunch? Wow - that is a bummer. I love not having to pack lunch and knowing they are getting options outside of our normal meal repertoire (We had a breakthrough with potatoes because of this!). What other schools do/do not have hot lunch?
|
| I don't understand the GDS lunch thing. I am not saying the the lunch has to be catered or fancy, but not even a basic cafeteria. I really think that a 4 -5 yo needs to be "served" lunch. Its seems counterintuitive to offer lunch to the upper grades but not the lower. |
Are you sure about Ridgewell's catering at Beauvoir? I thought they did everything in-house. |
Beauvoir used to be done in-house, but they now have an outside company doing the catering, for financial reasons I suppose. I don't think it's Ridgewell's, though. I think Ridgewell's caters at Maret. |
I was about to say...when my son was in pre-k, I remember volunteering to help with lunch and I would be aghast if that was Ridgewell's! It was the plainest lunch I had ever seen. |
| Just because Ridgewell's "caters" school lunches does not mean they are particularly fancy. Its their school division. I think they do most of the private schools in the area as it was found to be less expensive that in-house prep and most of the school administrators in the area are pretty tight and share info/ideas/sources/etc.... |
From Ridgewells' website: "We’ve also leveraged our nutritional and menu planning expertise to provide lunch service to local private schools and corporations through our Quick 'n' Haute division." |
