Ok, what is turnitin? I just looked and what does it have to do with plagiarism?

Turn It In is one such program we used with students. It scans the paper. You can do a general Google search using lines from a student's paper. I've caught a few kids stealing from those essay sites. Kids aren't that savvy.

And there are people who can still learn from it, genius.

It is a system/program that checks for plagiarism. You upload a composition, and turnitin finds any examples of sentences/paragraphs, etc. that are duplicated from articles/papers on the web, and identifies the original sources.

It is fool proof. You can start an account and use it to check your own kid's work before he/she submits an assignment (to look for unintentional failure to provide parenthetical citation of a source that is being quoted indirectly). Many schools use turnitin in their English Departments.

When I was in grad school, I used turnitin to prove that I HADN'T plagiarized a paper.
