Turn It In is one such program we used with students. It scans the paper. You can do a general Google search using lines from a student's paper. I've caught a few kids stealing from those essay sites. Kids aren't that savvy. |

It is a system/program that checks for plagiarism. You upload a composition, and turnitin finds any examples of sentences/paragraphs, etc. that are duplicated from articles/papers on the web, and identifies the original sources. It is fool proof. You can start an account and use it to check your own kid's work before he/she submits an assignment (to look for unintentional failure to provide parenthetical citation of a source that is being quoted indirectly). Many schools use turnitin in their English Departments. When I was in grad school, I used turnitin to prove that I HADN'T plagiarized a paper. |
