Bullshit. Every parent I know is obsessed with his or her kids and doesn't spend 3 seconds thinking about the future of the world. "I'm so concerned about the environment" as I toss yet another disposable diaper into the garbage...

landfills have plenty of room

Spoken like a true parent who doesn't spend three seconds thinking about the future as she tosses yet another disposable diaper into the garbage...

haha, why do you think disposable diapers are such a worry? how bizarre.

Ditto. Lots of dummies in "highly educated" DCUM.

Funny, when 99.99% of humanity that has ever lived has understood that sex and procreation are, in fact, linked.

Not to mention the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim faiths all teach that as truth.

I had a tubal. They are no longer linked for me. Ha ha ha.

Vasectomy here. We should get together, have meaningless consequence-fee sex, and make Baby Jesus cry.

New poster here - but no, you are the one being bizarre. Obviously she is concerned with the environment.

"How Long Does It Take To Decompose?

Banana Peel: 3-4 weeks Paper Bag: 1 month Cardboard: 2 months Wool Sock : 1 year Tinned Steel Can: 50 years Aluminum Can: 200-500 years (But if recycled, it can be reused within 6 weeks!) Disposable Diapers: 550 years Plastic Bags : 20-1000 years Plastic Jug: 1 million years Glass : 1-2 million years Styrofoam: 1+ million years This list might put some of the Green supporters’ words into perspective for a lot of people. It sure opened my eyes when I did a little research to see what the highest concerns were with today’s products. Just make sure you care as much about the container as you you do about the healthy food within it. Without a productive, prospering Earth, there cannot be a way to keep ourselves in healthy condition."

Do most of them get married? I am thinking having a heir is ultra important for most men although many do not seem to want the responsibility. So what do they do if their wives or many women do not want children? Do the poor, young, less educated women with less opportunities tend to get married because they might be more willing to have children?

The crude marriage rates in Italy (the number of marriages per 1,000 individuals in the population), fell between 1970 and 2007 from 7.35 to 4.21.

is marriage a requirement for having kids???

Have you been to Italy? You do know it houses the Vatican, right?

I'd say yes to your answer.

Vatican City is it's own state.

I have not read other responses, but I am from Europe and this is my take on it. It is very much cultural. I always thought that 2 was the only and the best way. Many young people here now go for at least 3 children and I see the toll that it takes on them. Especially the women are permanently stressed out. How can you give enough attention to three young children? You cannot possibly be the best mother in such circumstances.

Also, it is not culturally acceptable to me to allow my children to start their lives with a huge college debt. I believe I am financially responsible for their education. Most people here don't think that way and have multiple children for selfish reasons.

Selfish reasons like dad wanting too much sex?

Contraception is easily available to women in Europe. You don't have to go to a doctor to obtain it.

Women in Europe have a choice. Unlike here nobody there is telling them what they should do (abortion, contraception, etc). There is no stygma about these issues and it's not a political hot topic for some male political candidiates.

You sound extremely judgmental. Some women are stressed by only one kid, some can handle five with no problem.

Your world view is very limited. And I am sure some of your fellow countrymen and women would agree.

BTW, in this area, many people have more than two children and pay for all of them to go to college. But I guess they are still just selfish Americans.

Perhaps because all the other neighbors are having at least 3.
