WTF is happening at HARDY??????????

Anonymous
Wow! I confess, I am one who has posted here before in support of giving the new leadership at Hardy a chance. But, after reading this article, I'm reevaluating my own point of view. What has happened to this school is a disaster. In addition, it is just sleazy to solicit parents in an orchestrated PR campaign to boost the image of this principal and school. Hello DCPS, maybe PR isn't the issue -- maybe your crazy plan to have a principal on site part time is the issue. What a disaster this school has become. Very sad for the kids of DC. No way is my kid going to this school. Apologies to previous posters who have sounded the warning on this mess.

PS - Is anyone else bothered by the numerous spelling errors in the DCPS documents quoted in the article?

It has been stated that the current principal is out. There will be a search for a new principal as the former princpal will not be allowed to apply. What luck, to have dual positions and then be removed from one while being able to maintain your current job. What bad luck, to have been removed from one job with a promise to get another job, but your old job becomes vacant and you can't apply.

Am I the only one...but do you know any real-estate agents who are robo-calling neighborhoods with parents who have children who are school-age. Hello, this is real-estate Rona are you interested in selling your home because you're dis-satisfied with your neighborhood school? I serve DC as well as MoCo and Fairfax counties. Ha, ha, ha.

Funny, I'm one of the die-hard angry parents who resented the principal change, but now that I've read this story, I've switched sides, and now support giving the new leadership a chance. Strange how the world works.

Strange all right - unbelievable and nonsensical, even. What new leadership are you talking about? Didn't you hear that Nerenberg is out at hardy?

I work at Central and let me tell you, its a pathetic place right now. Everybody is afraid of losing their job, hence nothing is on target these days. Vince Gray really needs to make up his mind and cut the strings sooner then later because the city's kids are suffering from the ambiguity of whether Kaya Henderson is going to stick around.

Could you elaborate on this? What "system" are you talking about. My guess is that the second Gray (through his deputies) is forced to actually make a decision, the Defenders of the Status Quo that rose up and torpedoed Fenty will turn on Gray too. Which is why Gray makes such a huge show of blue-ribbon commissions, study groups, and other types of formal thumb-twiddling and bureaucratic throat-clearing. The longer he stays his hand, the longer the entrenched interests can convince themselves that he won't rock the boat. Perhaps he'll be able to pass the entire four years without actually doing a single proactive thing.

Fenty was only interested in DCPS despite the fact that over 1/3 of the city's public school students are in charters. Gray is interested in educating all of them.

Ah, okay I understand now: you're a disgruntled charter school parent. That makes sense. As I said before, let's see if Gray can satisfy the insatiable maw that is the DC charter community.

Seems unlikely.

If by satisfy, you mean obeying the law and treating the children equitably that would be a lovely change of pace. Until that happens, you can continue to expect us to be insatiable in our clamoring for fairness. (Not that I expect you to be well-informed enough to comprehend this, based on your tone.)

Wow, what a mess! BTW, how disappointing that a principal of TWO DCPS schools is such a horrible speller, writer, and editor. Embarrassing.

How does it follow that nothing is on target becasue people are afraid for their jobs? That isutation could keep people on their toes.

Also, gray has said numerous times that he plans to do a full search for chancellor, as he is required to do.

Sorry - it sounds like it's the folks at central, not the kids, who would suffer less ambiguity if Gray made a quick decision.

Actually it's Safiya Simmons, the Chancellor's Assistant Press Secretary, who wrote the error ridden email.

I wonder how much she's getting paid and what other billiant PR ideas she's had.

A lot of the work is long term. We're talking about educating children for 13 years at least.
Long term decisions are on hold since we don't know if we will be here 5 months from now.
If Gray said outloud that he was not considering Kaya, it would be better because there would be a forseeable deadline to get things accomplished.

If Central Office is dysfunctional, you have got to be dillusional to think it won't effect DCPS kids.
One of my kids is currently at DCPS and one is not. I care.

Yes, it would make your lives easier - if you knew kaya was out, you could scurry to find a new job - understandable that you would want this. However, it's also understandable that Gray should follow the planned process for choosing a chancellor.

She didn't say central office was dysfunctional, she said people were scared for their jobs.

I agree a dsyfunctional CO affects everything it comes in contact with. and it's hard for people to work at full capacity when they are afraid for their jobs -- just ask teachers.
