This is an insane comment. People who refuse to pay and would become violent if confronted deserve to be in cages. |
| Best to make buses free. It makes a lot of sense |
I enjoy paying the tolls as it keeps out the riff raff. |
That’s problem with ivory tower clueless theorists like yourself. Free transportation sounds great but what it means in practice is that transport becomes homeless shelters full of stinking hobos and drugged out zombies. No normal citizen wants to use it. Also as a self professed economist, you should know that there is no free lunch and be more precise with your claims. |
Those people can't help themselves. They have an emotional regulation disorder. The best we can do is to accommodate their behavior. We can't just lock up people who get upset when confronted with the rules. |
No human being belongs in a cage. |
+1 Unfortunately, this post will go whoosh! over the heads of many. |
I wonder how the ancients managed to survive without the threat of constant taxes and toll roads. |
That’s a separate issue that can be handled without charging $$. |
| There is no free lunch and there should be no free transportation. All able bodied adults should be providing some form of public service in return for public assistance. If they need to take public transportation to perform that public service then provide them with loaded metro card. |
Oh I see that you are tilting at windmills with language like “ivory tower theorist” when your simply talking to people just like yourself on a local message board. |
They didn't. Ancient Rome had a tax system which funded public works. Ancient Greece had taxes to a lesser extent. Whatever institution granted your (alleged) Economics degree should be ashamed of themselves. |

Not a single person responding to this thread has given me a legitimate reason the DC government can’t just make WMATA buses free. If they made them free, it would instantly solve the so-called issue of “fare evasion.”
Problem solved! |
WMATA isn't run by DC. |
Ancients don't include the Romans or Greeks as they are new to the planet. We are discussing ancient Africa.... keep up! |
