In my humble opinion the worst part about this debt is the fact we didn't even accrue this debt to provide a free education or free healthcare to our citizens. Think about this for a minute. A lot of countries that have a lot debt at least provided free public education and healthcare to their citizens
Then the question for the future becomes how does a country have a future when it took so much debt and yet it's people are not even as educated (because they couldn't afford the training) and are skipping critical health visits (because they cannot afford them). The truth is we have a country that is made of silos. You can a fantastic existence by living in a secluded upscale neighborhood, your kids can attend elite private schools, you don't have to skip doctor visits, you can afford to have amazing vacations. These people are the ones who will have to be taxed. Do you really these people want this system to change? No way in hell. If needed they will fortify their existence should you try to disturb their peace. |
| Yes taxes will increase, but so will loopholes haha. |
Federal Debt to Hit Record Levels, Budget Office Warns
|
that is just not true- Elon musk will earn a trillion $s as his own personal income for one (!) 1 calendar year. if we stop instigating stupid foreign wars, stop foreign aid and tax the .01% we can get rid of it. but we wont so I'm trying my best to provide alternative citizenships for my kids so they actually get something for the taxes they pay-- we pay 40% in tax and have the exact same lifestyle as our siblings in the EU (we pay through the nose for our kids schools, they get the same for free, same with healthcare but they are EU not Britain, UK family all do stints of tax free living in UAE to attain same level of nice SF house, good school and luxury car/vacation, good health insurance as us) |
| So many people seem to think the answer is to tax the Uber rich. The reality is this country needs to increase taxes on so many of the people below them. I’m sorry but if you’re earning $500,000 a year then you also should be paying more taxes. Then you can have nice infrastructure and less debt. |
OMG just stop yes the rich need to be taxed. Trump hasn't barely paid a dime in over 40 years nor has Musk or Bezos that is wrong just wrong. Trump isn't going to make you pay more taxes to improve the US suckers he is going to pocket the monies. Once a two bit con always one. Get ready not like Pig boy and his sickos haven't spewed this outloud and wrote it down What do you all think dictators do not tax the poors LOL |
I think you contradicted yourself. You suggested that you’re paying the same levels of tax as your siblings but getting fewer services. Then you say that your British family have to go to the UAE to make enough money to have the same standard of living. The highest marginal rates of tax are generally higher in European countries than in the US. It’s 55% in France and Sweden. |
Go after Trump first. He paid just $750 in taxes in 2016 Get back to us little people after your done |
| Call me cray paranoid and weird lol, but I am so worried about the nation's debt that I am planning retirement under the assumption that whatever Ill have in my 401k when I retire 50% of it will be taxed by the government including state and local. |
You aren’t wrong Trump is coming for every dime There will be no jobs no economy nothing by the time he’s done but breeding farms for women and bread lines MAGA has no idea what they have done to the economy and the National Debt. They thing Soccial security will still be there lol 😂 😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣 They think their kids will have jobs as plumbers that will pay living wages under a dictatorship. There is no stopping this train wreck. If believe in god pray Trump dies soon. Maybe then your grandchildren will have a chance because your kids will not, Trump is a Russian traitor con man his sycophants are out for blood and they will come for us all. |

The federal government has spent $697 billion more than it has collected in fiscal year 2026 and we are only in February.
And we are going to see the largest tax refund in history. But here is the issue the biggest beneficiary are going to be people like me. Do you I am going to spend it? Nope I am not going to spend this money on a trip or consumption goods. I am going to save this money to grow my emergency fund even further. We are in trouble folks. Unfortunately too many Americans have such low economic literacy skills they have absolutely no idea what's happening. |
We earn about $600k and paid about 42% of that in taxes this past year. Please close the loopholes on the uber rich first. |
Most of your wages are in the form salary that's probably why. |
| When is debt that everyone is talking about due? 2028, 2030? 2050? |
