| Because our school has a direct admit relationship with a good local university, that is my kid’s safety and backup plan. As of today he has three others he is looking at and will likely apply, and a few more saved on the school software list but probably won’t apply to. Hoping to get into his top choice during EA and possibly be done with it all after that. |
| 10 universities with engineering programs |
DP here. My kid is also a 3.5 and went test optional. Got into Iowa State, Duquesne and Kent State so far. |
| Texas State. 21k in merit yearly for four years . |
| Looking at a lot of low admit schools so thinking 9-10 early apps and considering another 6 for RD because they don't have EA and not ready to ED, hopefully they get in to top choice on December and don't have to do additional ones. |
| How many did they submit by today or are about to for Oct 15th deadline? |
My 3.7 WPGA/1300 FCPS student just got accepted to Michigan State today. Nice to have that one in the pocket for the program he wants. Also accepted to Ball State with $14k/yr merit, COA $28,500/yr. |
When did they apply to those schools? |
|
10 EA, 1 ED
3 safety, 3 target, 5 reach 3 LAC, 4 State Flagship, 4 mid size private Hoping to have a decision early but had a shorter list of additional schools if needs to apply to more in RD/ED2 |

Kids applying to highly rejective schools have to have a long list. It is just so unpredictable.
My eldest would have been thrilled to be one and done but didn't get accepted ED, so he ended up applying to 19 more. 1 safety, 4 targets, 14 reaches. In the end he was accepted to 5 reaches plus the 4 targets and 1 safety. He was wait-listed at 5 more reaches but didn't stay on the wait-list. I can honestly say that I would not have predicted the outcome. He was accepted at an Ivy, but not the Ivies his parent attended; in at a couple highly selective liberal arts colleges, but not others; in at some top 25s but wait-listed at several 25-50s. The experience with my second kid was much breezier. He was not as strong a student (UW 3.4 rather than UW 3.9; high 1300s rather than high 1500s) and applied pretty much to schools in the US News 50-100 range. He got into 11 of 12 schools, many without supplementals. |
Yes mine applied to 1 rolling and got in. They decided to commit because it has the exact program they want and checks lots of other boxes. Decided to stop there and lower the stress. Had a list of 2-4 more as backup but none came close to the first school. |
| 4 schools, only one a reach |
Ball State was end of September, MSU was mid September. Heard from Ball State last week. So that took like a week! |
| EDing to 1 and hoping we are good to go! Will hear back in early December and apply to others for RD if needed. My DS is super drawn to one school who he is a great match for. I think it really depends on the kid. With my other DS who is younger, I imagine he'll cast more of a wide net and see what happens. |

Right now at 10-11, possibly adding 1-2 more.
Kid is applying to music production-type programs and almost all require a portfolio and many an audition. Most also have supplemental essay for the music school (it's sometimes it's own separate document), even if it's a lower ranked program. Wanted to limit it to fewer because of all the extra work with the audition and everything but also there is so much uncertainty, I feel like there are no safeties. And there will be no "wrapping up" by December. Several programs don't allow EA for majors requiring an audition/portfolio. |
