It is about a Korean man married to an American woman who dies in an accident/is maybe kidnapped by North Korea in the 1970s. But it is also a family drama. So far very well written and interesting and compelling. I also enjoyed her previous novel, Trust Exerciss, quite a bit though wanted a book club afterward to unpack it!

Just finished “The Land in Winter” from the short list. It’s more of a traditional read than typically associated with recent Booker picks, about two couples in post-WWII England. It’s beautifully written but definitely melancholy.

Do you want a short or long book? I read Audition a bit ago and it’s a puzzle of a book in a good way. I’m only about a quarter into Sonia and Sunny and liking it so far.

Thank you! Given your summary and due dates, I went with Audition and was quickly pulled into the sorry (I’m ~30% in)…”puzzle of a book” is a great description. Sonia and Suni may be a next year read based on where I am in the queue.

I just finished Lily King’s Heart the Lover. It’s a quick one sitting type of read. 5 stars. Keep a box of tissues nearby if you plan to read it.
