SSFS updates? We are thinking about it for a last minute HS switch

I agree. If the parents and teachers on this forum are any representation of how the community acts, it is reason to be dismayed.

You’re a hater, troll, racist, all kinds of things for even suggesting there might be something wrong. String denial is why parents who were struggling were met with a brick wall when they took concerns to admin in the 1st place. So it is still unclear that the school agrees there was a problem. No one gives a debrief of why students left. Not in the open at least.

Not a single person, in this thread or the old ones, said the school has no problems. Just that they believe those problems are not insurmountable, and they can see how the school and the Coalition are working on it.

It's not trolling or hating to express realistic concerns. It *is* trolling to use name-calling ("magical thinkers," "head in the sand," "Pollyannas"), doom and gloom defeatism ("nothing is being done," "they will be in the same position next year"), or repeting points that have been discussed to death just to sow doubt ("how did they get in so much debt?" "how will they prevent this from happening again?"). Those posters will claim to care about the school when really they're trying to make families who are staying or new prospective families look stupid. We don't know every poster's connection to the school based on anonymous forum but it's pretty easy to tell the intent of the questions and which questions are genuine.

Yeah, you just did exactly what the OP was talking about. ALL the forums on DCUM are like this - not just SSFS. And this is just your not-so-clever way of continuing to bash the school.
Do better. Choose your school and live your life.

At times I find posts on the various SSFS forums comical but only in a cynical way. Mostly, I find it all to be a distressing reminder of how hyper politicized our society has become and how social media such as this solves no problems and only fuels division. I’m dismayed by the lack of civility. I’m dismayed that seemingly educated people can’t distinguish between fact and speculation. I’m dismayed at how easily and perhaps unknowingly people overgeneralize their personal narrative to a larger population – how we unwittingly communicate as propagandists.

In response to all this I have just two things to contribute that are personal to me, for what it’s worth:

First, stop hard-selling your take on SSFS. We already live in a world where it’s impossible to avoid advertising. Live your truth and whatever decision you make about where to send your kid(s) to school is the right answer...for you.

Second, regardless of your personal experience with SSFS, I believe that when you see through the melodrama of the last few years, something authentic happens on the SSFS campus.

I wish everyone a peaceful and joyful summer!

+1 Thank you for this post and I too wish everyone a great summer!

Your response only proves the point and suggests that the person who needs to do better is you. Is the way you act what Quakerism looks like?

Yes, when someone responds simply by saying, "Do better. Choose your school and live your life" - this is exactly what Quakerism looks like? Take care.

Thank you for clarifying that you lack an understanding of Quakerism and that you believe you have the right to silence anyone you do not agree with.

NP - You're reaching. If you're still posting then you haven't been silenced nor has anyone tried to silence you. But yes, you are exactly the kind of poster others have been referring to.

The poster was attempting to silence. And you know that. Whether or not it worked is another matter. Wow. Integrity? Community?
