Captain Underpants is for little kids who are just learning to read. It’s great for that. I would be surprised to see a 4-5 grader reading it. |
I agree with you! I read tons of crap as a kid. I think I know all of the adventures of Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, and I witnessed the murder of many a teenager with Christopher Pike. But we didn’t read them for school, and no one pretended they were literature. Now my kids are reading junk at school, so they have to read literature in their free time at home. It’s backward. |
It means a significant portion of an entire generation of students cannot read fluently, in part due to the Caulkins approach. |
