Come back when you start to feel the impacts of a purposely diminished government. Maybe someone in your family will die of a pathogen or a car accident (which could have been avoided with appropriate safeguards, regulations, and testing in place). Maybe your kid won't be offered any merit aid for college despite how hard they worked to keep that 4.0, because the universities are no longer able to be generous. Feds are being treated inhumanely. The rest of the country is going to have to feel it unfortunately.

Are you kidding me? US universities, especially private ones, should have lost Federal funding long ago.

Because our government has no interest in ensuring that we have enough doctors and nurses (pssst...we don't), accountants, farmers, and engineers? Makes great sense. Keep America Stupid!

To be fair, the not enough doctors is an AMA deal. They lobby Congress to have barriers (eg, limited spots in residency programs) to increasing doctor numbers in order to keep their salaries and demand high.

Well I guess you can blame the govt in that aspect since Congress implements it, but it’s not a recent phenomenon.

This is not true

Why did you feel the need to post this on this thread? You are either an idiot, insensitive, or both. Run. Along.

PP here. Maybe you don’t like my view, but at least I’m honest. Wishing you all the best.

Okay, so you are an idiot, as there clearly is no "maybe" in the pp's post.

Wow. Now I don’t feel bad for you at all. Not even a little bit. You Feds are mean, vindictive, and entitled. You had this coming. Where were you when those of us in this private sector were laid off and suffered during COVID. You were hiding at home behind your monitors on full pay. Well now it’s your turn. Karma is a B as they say.

NP. I feel like you’re being deliberately cruel to Feds, as though we deserve it. Thing is, I was in the private sector for almost thirty years and got laid off during COVID. I found a good job in the government, although it took a long time, and I’m doing great at it. But I’m in line to lose my job again and probably will. Was it my turn to lose my job twice for reasons that had nothing to do with me or my performance? And should I resent the one caused by a global pandemic or the one caused by an ignorant man-child more? We don’t deserve this. I didn’t deserve this.

Maybe you’re the diamond in the rough, but why did you choose a Federal job? Most of the Feds I know brag about transitioning to the Federal Government for work-life balance. And it’s absurd that Feds are still working from home five years post COVID. No wonder Americans are angry. Enough is enough! But good luck to you. I’m sure you’ll do fine back in the private sector.

Not a fed hater by any means but I can see why this is happening. You can’t reach into the cookie jar too many times! Most Feds became accustomed to WFH and assumed it was (is) birthright. I know a few who openly bragged they never plan to retire - a paycheck and full benefits for life, all while sitting home. It’s natural for sentiment to build to these levels when so many who are struggling to go to work every day just to keep a roof over their heads. I personally know a 65yo woman who takes three buses daily to get to work, with health issues. How do you think she feels when she hears all of this? I think some of the arrogance of fed workers brought this along.

And why is it that fed workers draw their ire? And not the billionaires and 1 percent profiting from others’ labor while enjoying lower taxes?

It’s natural for others vitriol to rise when they are struggling just to get to work while they “perceive” others such as feds to be living large, job security, no commuting, good compensation, etc. Why is this concept so foreign to Feds? If I were a Fed, I would lay low, keep my mouth shut, do my job, and not gloat while others are struggling. I saw the resentment building…

The resentment is building because a bunch of people fell for billionaire propaganda convincing them that the federal employees issuing their SS checks and making sure they have clean drinking water and helping planes land safely, etc. are the “problem with America” instead of growing income inequality caused by these billionaire policies.

And at this point my sympathy is gone for people who are struggling and voted for Trump. They allowed their jealousy to override their common sense.

No you didn't deserve it and I'm sorry. Most people outside of the DC area don't understand what the Federal government does. We can only hope the voting population can somehow get better educated on government, capitalism and democracy.

very true, but I never had empathy for those voters. I still believe many voters are still outraged and resent that Obama was president. This is their payback.

Well it's pretty clear that a lot of Americans hate Washington DC because they happily voted for this.

I would say this thread does NOT help with coping with despair. Some of y'all are being jerks. When my friends and family in the private sector have been laid off, I've been sympathetic! I've listened to them and tried to pass on job leads! I didn't tell them that someone else had it worse so why should they be spared, because I have empathy.

And this isn't entirely good faith - my mom likes to talk about how private sector work means constant layoffs, but my dad worked 35 years in the same industry job and retired with a great pension, it's not some kind of universal experience. Similarly, I know feds who've been laid off through RIFs from the 2013/2014 sequester, it's not guaranteed employment for life.
