Interesting that the great players don't wait until they are 20 or 21 to start college. It's the mediocre (relative) ones who have to stay in juniors until they age out to play in college. |
Some of the data is pretty old. There's been a significant shift in how college hockey operates Joe Pavelski and Zach Parise were being recruited and went to college. But they're included in the dataset. |
More than 10 years ago, a kid from Silver Spring (a great kid) was the Washington Posts All Met player of the Year. He was invited to walk on at Wisconsin and made the team his first year. He did not have any playing time. So opted to be an engineering student. A wise choice for him. I was surprised at the level of competition.
