I would also agree with this. We have been known to easily drop 2k on a meal.

I don't think any meal in DC is worth $2000. I'd rather take that $2000 and fly to Tokyo and use the change to have a proper good meal. You can eat very well for very cheap in Tokyo. DC has become a terrible food town. Save your money and travel elsewhere for the good meals.

This, or fly to California or New York or anywhere in France. Germany has better quality and tasting food Sodexo crap all over the city What restaurant in DC is worth $2k? Not to mention who routinely drops $2k on dinner, that’s just stupid.

I will go out for my birthday though.

This is what we do. If we want Chinese, Thai, etc it’s coming from the frozen food aisle at Trader Joe’s and then I bulk it up. With more noodles, rice, etc.

I am not a miser at all. I just cannot consume so much or I will weigh 600 lbs. I also don’t think $2,000 for a meal sounds interesting. Especially in DC.

District Taco - I dunno- the service seems to have gotten less friendy over the past year.

I think that Five Guys is a no brainer to make at home. It's just decent quality beef fried up. For me it's more about planning ahead to have beef and fresh buns since we only eat it when we have the craving!

$22 for a personal sized pizza with about $.80 of flour and $2 of cheese.

$25-30 for boxed pasta and some sauce

$48 for a crappy fish like bronzino

$25-35 for glopy cheap peasant food like risotto with a stingy amount of seafood

$16 per glass of low tier Italian wine

So overpriced and overrated.

I love Italian food. I rarely go out to eat it. I'm not an accomplished chef, but I can make almost any Italian dish as good as a restaurant for a fraction of the price.

Regardless of the quality/lack of quality, dropping $2000 on a dinner is nuts. Even if money isn't an object, it's just gross.

I’m very reluctant to order salads in most restaurants or fast casual/takeout establishments. It’s not worth it to me because I firmly believe that the lettuce and other leafy greens are not washed. I had one very bad experience about a year ago after eating a Caesar salad for lunch in a restaurant and that was it for me.

That's a very good "not worth it" example. It is never worth it to risk food poisoning.

It probably includes some expensive wines with high mark ups.

Are others still tipping 10-20% on takeout at places like Panera or Cava? I’m starting to question it with prices up. Often I’m ordering on a screen.

You don’t tip at take away places. These servers are not on tip based salaries.

Decent people tip a few dollars in recognition of the person who packed up their order, ensured it was correct, and rang it up. Do you literally have to? No. Are you a decent person if you don’t take a moment and a few measly dollars for this act of kindness? Also no.

That’s what their wage is for. Nothing to do with being decent.

Fixing? Do you mean making? Fixing implies something is wrong.

How can you not know this colloquial term? My midwestern friends use it all the time.

1) Chinese food (at least in my area); quality has been on the decline for years, but last night was the final straw at what used to be our semi-decent local place. The Crab Rangoon was cloyingly sweet on the inside, to the point of being inedible. The noodle dishes and meat dishes alike were greasier than usual, and the quality of meat was sub-par. The dumplings are super thin and don’t hold their shape; I love thick dumplings. Just not worth it anymore, unfortunately, though maybe I can find better Chinese food when visiting friends or traveling. I do love it every now and then!

2) Fast food or quick serve drinks of any sort. We’re going to stick with waters or drinks we bring on road trips, or drink iced tea, soda or alcoholic beverages at home when we bring food home. No alcoholic beverages or lemonades or anything at sit-down meals, unless it’s a very nice restaurant for a special night out; no drinks with casual dining.

What habits have you changed? What’s not worth it to you anymore?

WTF? Food prices have soared the last four years due to Biden. How do you not understand this?

Buckle up. You are in for an eye-opening next few years.

My worst experience was at a cute little restaurant in France: there was a live slug, not small, on one of the lettuce leaves. They refused to comp the meal and didn't apologize.
