Is it OK for parents to travel in Business Class while teen kids travel in Economy?

I have had back surgery and long flights in economy are very painful for me. My kids are teens and thrive in economy. It is not worth it for me to spend $1000s to upgrade them, but it is worth it for me. Simple.

Also I bet if you ask them, would you rather we save the $1000 for better meals/more outings etc. they would happily forgo the comfort. My kids are happy to sleep in the backseat of a car if that means they get to spend money on something they actually enjoy.

Ha. If I asked my kids would they rather have $1000 for the seats or $100 for intentional roaming, they’d choose roaming so they could text their friends from vacation.

DW and I have the largest, master bedroom in the house with an attached full bathroom. The kids have smaller secondary bedrooms.

When we take a cruise, DW and I get a balcony room; we book the kids an interior cabin.

When we buy a new car, it goes to DW or me as thr primary drivers. The older cars get passed down to the kids.

Is this “immoral”?

Speaking of which, when you go abroad, do you get international roaming for all of the family, or just for the parents?

What type of emergency? I am serious - I what kind of emergency could happen on a plane that will require you to be in the same fare class as your teenager?

DP, but we were on a flight and the engine caught on fire. We had to make an emergency landing. It was very stressful and would have been much worse if our kids had been back in coach. I am glad we were sitting with our kids so we could talk them through the situation and they didn’t freak out.

If you order your life around risk of this magnitude, you'd never drive a car, eat grapes, take a drink, or do one of innumerable other things you do as a matter of course. Is it just that you are bad at math?

I didn’t order my life around this. We were in business class and then the engine caught on fire, dummy.

OK, in addition to being bad at math, reading comprehension is an issue for you. I'll go slow, to make sure you understand this time.

You suggested that you wouldn't sit apart from your teenagers *in the future* because of the risk of the plane engine catching fire. But that is a very, very small risk, and if you, or anyone, makes decisions based on that level of risk *in any context,* you won't be doing anything.

Does that help?

Why are you such a nasty person? You should reflect upon that in the year 2025. It is not a healthy way to live.

And, no. I responded to a question as to when would it matter if you are in different classes. This is an anecdote.
