If you are over 45 and feel you are aging well

Anonymous
I am 49 and whenever I meet new people and age comes up, I usually get 10-12 years younger.

Genetics help, I am Greek, but my younger sister is addicted to Botox and it has definitely aged her/made her look weird.

I eat an animal based whole food diet and cook at home. I would rather fast than eat out. I have never been a drinker and pretty much stopped a few years ago. I drink reverse osmosis water at home and coffee, raw milk and maybe a sparkling mineral water from time to time.

My cycles are regular and due to clean eating and enough good fat to support my adrenals and hormones, I am on zero medications.

Workouts are heavy weights, walking, sprinting and gardening. I do something everyday. Also part of a recreational pickleball league with my husband but we have also played cornhole and kickball recreationally. Both for physical health and the connection to community that these clubs provide.

I make my own tallow face and body cream with added castor oil and essential oils (sparingly). I wear hats outdoors and make sure my eyes get morning light. I avoid sunglasses unless I am driving or on the water and need to avoid glare for safety. I don’t wear sunscreen, I am just smart about shade and coverage.

I volunteer throughout the year in various local and state parks. I sing in a choir.

I make good money in a position that is low key. This has taken me years to find after many high stress positions. My husband is the main breadwinner and I manage the household so it’s a great trade off. We have been together for 30 years and have great sex - that love is probably the best fountain of youth. We have four kids, two in college and two teens at home. Best people in our lives.

We hike and camp as a family and don’t care about what the Joneses do.

All of this and moving away from the toxicity of the DC area has contributed to our overall youthful looks compared to our high school and college friends and family who live toxic lives chasing the dollar.

You diminish the impact of your good genetics. I'm 58, 40lbs overweight, don't do anything more vigorous than walk, drink wine 3x a week, drink FFX County water, would never drink raw milk (I grew up on a farm and know better), am postmenopausal and am on zero oral presciption medications. I do take the usual supplements - calcium, magnesium, fish oil, multivitamin, etc. I do use a vaginal estrogen cream, antihistamines and a nasal spray.

My mother and older sister are the same way. My grandmother (who was 103 when she died) didn't take anything but supplements until she was in her late 80s and started to experience low blood pressure.

Keep greys hidden
Trim every six weeks
Alternate between Kerastase, Bumble and Bumble, and Wella conditioner
Use the hair vitamins from Amazon (put them in dry hair in the morning and let it sit before your shower while you drink your coffee)
You want to keep your hair like glaaaaaasss

Do you have a link? I can't find this product and am interested.

Anyway, I'm 46 and in menopause. So far I've gained about 5 lbs which is okay because I lost 10 lbs last year without trying and it made my face look gaunt. I don't want to gain back any more than I lost though. I'm 5'5" and would like to go back to my usual 120-125.
I think I probably look my age give or take a few years. I whiten my teeth, keep my hair trimmed and subtly highlighted, wear sunscreen every day, and wear a hat and oversized glasses if I'm going to be outside. My mom is 80 and looks amazing but I don't think my genetics are quite as good as hers. I have a stressful job and have never been a good sleeper and probably drink too much caffeine.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned hand care in this thread. I use a retinol cream and then slather on aquaphor and wear cotton gloves every single night unless it's blazingly hot outside. My hands are soft and look really good. There are a lot of people who spend considerable time and money keeping their faces and bodies looking youthful but their hands give it away.

Good skincare and lots of water and good genes. I’m about to turn 50 and when I tell people that no one believes me. Exercise. And you have to lift weights. Not just cardio.

You sleep in gloves? Would you mind sharing a link to what you use? My hands are terribly dry and cracked so the gloves may be a good option for me.

Why do you avoid sunglasses? I thought they help with crowsfeet

I drink a small espresso in the AM and then it's matcha/herbal teas in the afternoon. Cold press juices. I never eat "fast food" and when I do dine out, I stick to vegetarian options.

Yoga, barre and pilates 6x a week, plus I walk a mile or more a day. My yoga practice is generally 90 minutes long. Sauna 1-2x a week.

I've been using various retinol products since I was 16, along with sun screen, and my skin looks great. My skin care is not complicated, but I use only the best--La Prarie. I get about 10 hours of sleep every night too. I also retired at 21, so that helps.

Live your life, girl! I’m jealous!

Oh, ffs, don't tell me you believe this post.

I actually know a ton of people like this, but they all live in Miami.

This isn’t the exam pair but it’s definitely pretty close. Just a thin layer of trentonin, wait 2-3 minutes, slather was aquaphor or something similar and go to bed:

It is so frustrating. I used to have beautiful hair and now it’s like a broom. No gloss, treatment, oil, anything has helped at all.

I'm almost 47. I wear moisturizer with sunscreen every day and stay out of the sun - if I do go outside, I always wear a wide-brimmed hat. I slather on night cream before bed. I get lash extensions...not sure they make me look any younger but they make me feel prettier. Get my hair cut and colored every 5 weeks. Go to the gym for weight training 2x/week and walk on the treadmill 3x/week. Keep my weight in check (5'7 140 lbs). People tell me I'm pretty a lot - like, randomly. Was buying soup at the grocery store and the young girl ringing me up said, "You are SO pretty." Happened to me in an elevator at...a nursing home, lol. Old guy whistled and told me I have a body like Lana Turner. Went to a work conference and met a woman in person for the first time who I've talked with on the phone for years and I saw her name tag and ran up and said, "Jen! It's me!" She said I know I saw you I just felt nervous to go up to you because you're so pretty. Weird. Get this more now than I ever did in my younger years.

I haven't tried any cosmetic procedures. I worry I'm missing the boat, but then I look at my mom who looks beautiful in her 70s and also hasn't done anything and think...I don't want to risk shooting my face full of stuff that may or may not help me. I do doll myself up every day. Full face of make up that takes me 30 minutes to apply, and I go to Sephora a few times a year for a makeover to be sure I'm staying current and wearing stuff that looks good on me. Hose and high heels every day, a nice dress, jewelry. I smile a lot; I'm outgoing and enjoy talking to people in just about every setting.

I eat pretty terribly. Always trying to get a handle on it but really having a hard time. I love junk food...chocolate, donuts, sugary Starbucks drinks. I could stand to lose 5 pounds but really for my health I need to cut way back on sugar I think. All my numbers are still good at the doc - low blood pressure, low cholesterol. Anyway I think the keys to looking good (younger?) as you age are keeping weight in check, making the most of what you have with clothes and make up, and just being naturally pretty works well at every age.

I don’t know if this will make you feel better but there is absolutely a difference between people whose hair shines because of treatments etc and those whose hair shines because of hair quality and/or youth. So long of way, you may see your hair more negatively than others do.

I've heard of glass skin, never glas hair! Also, I doubt that those specific products are the holy grail for everyone.

Truth! The title of this thread should read over 55, not 45. It is a striking difference in ten years.

Yes, I agree. Everyone’s window is different but a lot can change in just a few years.

To the poster saying no sunglasses, they are the main protection you have against cataracts. At least according to my ophthalmologist.
