HS magnets don't have entrance exams. The only thing public MS does to help with magnet admissions is grade inflation so everyone gets an A and qualifies.

Private school if you have the funds yes. Private catholic school maybe not depending on the school. Our neighbors send their kids to catholic school and their 6th grader said their math is similar to what my 4th grader is doing, so you should check on the quality/rigor of math instruction. And their catholic school also has big class sizes like MCPS.
