Kids are starving after swim practice/swim meats. Many like hearty food:
•pigs in a blanket
•walking tacos
•salami roll-ups with cream cheese
• peanut butter on celery
• peanut noodles

(And, I agree with the watermelon boosters)

People eat pigs in a blanket by the fistful whenever I bring them.

Spanikopita
Mini quiche
Samosas
Empanadas

In general little appetizer bite things go well.

Is walking taco the same thing as a Frito bag with toppings? Do you assemble them beforehand or just bring fixings?

Yes, it is the same thing. They look gross, but kids love them. I bring ingredients in plastic containers + assemble on-site.

I have been to a lot of swim potlucks and I have never seen any of these served! Is this standard for dmv? Do you keep the salami and cream cheese on ice to keep it cold? I would avoid peanuts for a big crowd of kids.

Same. Including the "fancy" people who claim "I normally NEVER eat these!" Uh huh. Here's your Grey Poupon and another pig.

Fwiw, my mac-&-cheese-obsessed kid despises the m&c from Noodles and Co. It's just blobs of cheese glopped onto pasta rather than a creamy sauce and she prefer the latter. Panera or Costco would be better.

I am the pigs-in-a-blanket and/or Rotel+Velveeta person at every potluck. And, yes, I see you scarfing it down when you think nobody is looking, Fancy People. I see you drinking that boxed wine I brought, too.

The sooner everyone agrees that pool potlucks are the most basic form of potluck the better. People bring grocery store packaged stuff picked up on the way home from work. Don’t try hard, you’ll just be disappointed.

I don't know if this is universal. Ours are pretty good, including salads and stuff adults like.

Two words:

TATER TOTS!!

Bring a container of ketchup.

Always disappears.

Yes, I keep the salami/ cream cheese rollups on ice in cooler until ready to serve. They disapear quickly. All of this food does...same for regattas.
