I was just going to post this when I saw the thread.

Soft Cell!

The only reason why Soft Cell are either embarrassing or some one hit wonder band for you is because you never did any research or bought any of their albums.

Exactly! I was like, what?! They’re not a one hit wonder?!

I love Soft Cell and they were so much more than a one hit wonder for me. Nonstop Erotic Cabaret is a classic synth new wave album. And Marc Almond had a big solo career in the UK. So saying they were a one hit wonder is really only accurate for the ignorant people out there.

I'm going with Break My Stride, by Matthew Wilder.

I'm sorry but Hansen had one hit song, MMMBop, and no others. They had other songs, yes, but none were hits, and their career on popular radio was short lived and involved only one song.

I agree with the rest on this thread but have to quibble here. Some of his chamber music is quite good and I'm a big fan of his band music, especially first and second suites for military band.

And I'm a big fan of other Proclaimers songs, but that doesn't make them hits

Ask anyone who has played in a band if they know First Suite in E flat.

-trombonist who has played this in a zillion bands

But "played in band" = not a typical member of the public. Lots of musicians may love a composer, but if the general public is only familiar with one piece, that's the hit.

Zero great songs, but several big hits

I accidentally was first to know about Hansen. I saw their MMMBop video being made for MTV.

While I’m sure we are all very impressed by your music chops, the phrase is one “hit” wonder snd although I also love devo I think they didn’t have anything else in the top 25 and maybe only one other in top 100.
